The only fighter in recent memory i remember running around the ring was really chris byrd. De La Hoya is a combination of both a slick boxer as well as a vicious puncher depending on his weight. Alot of mexicans rip de la hoya because hes not on all that MEXICAN PRIDE/BROWN PRIDE tip shoving it everyones faces, and alienating non-mexican fans along with it. Everyone likes de la hoya because he can appeal to anyone, hes an american, BUT he still represents his pride in his own way by retaining the spanish language, appearing on mexican-geared tv, and putting on events that focus on mexican fighters, more than most mexicans could ever hope to do in their entire lives when it comes to improving their culture in a positive light.

You know what, to tell you the truth, alot of americans in this country ****ing forget how american they are. Its ****** when i see a bunch of puerto rican flags/cuban/etc, when you got people who dont even speak spanish, dont know **** about the countries, yet they are so proud of a heritage they barely relate to and know nothing about. Puerto Rico is nearly in collapse government wise and they are about to impose a 7percent sales tax just to try to save it. Most "puerto ricans" here dont even know about that and dont even care.

I know im on a serious off-topic rant, but "latinos" seem to forget what most of their pride and culture is based on, spanish is a white european language, most of what we eat traditionally is really spanish european related, the main religion of catholicism is also of european heritage. The reality is being a "latino" is really just encompassing a bunch of other cultures at once. My mom is from puerto rico, but i never say im "puerto rican", man im black, i aint from puerto rico, i dont relate to puerto rico, ive been there, but id never ****in live there, my life has nothing to do with that place, much like alot of puerto ricans here.

Showing your pride means showing your intelligence, and carrying your culture in a positive light, which de la hoya does, which is why i respect him.
