Yea, but he was 172 for Murrary so there's clearly some wide variation.

      War Golovkin
I believe he weighed just under 168 at the 30 day weigh in vs Cotto.

Canelo can get a 154 title shot within days of dropping his 160 belt or he'll further piss off boxing fans & get a 168 title fight @ 161. Or worse case he's famous enough at this point to have a string of non-title PPV fights.

With GGG's limited time in the game, maybe 10 fights/max, he'd be wise to realize that most fans won't remember 155 or 160 they'll only remember if the fight happened & GGG's bank account will be bigger or smaller post-boxing based on Canelo being on his resume or not & his legacy will be bigger or smaller for the same reason.
you also have to take into account that it will get increasingly difficult for canelo to cut weight and most of good 154 lbers are off-limits due to the network split. i think he'll be able to get away with facing welters at 155 until the end of the year at most, and then the pressure from the fans and from his own body will force him to 160 or near it, where he won't be able to avoid golovkin without tarnishing his reputation permanently. so i think he'll have an "introduction to middleweight" against someone like stevens in september (at 156-157) and then face golovkin (at 157-158) next cinco de mayo

That's exactly what is happening for a couple of years now. Ward is rumored to fight while Golovkin is actually fighting.

Other fighters move up because they start at the lowest weight-class possible and struggle to cut the weight fast enough as they get older or they just lack discipline, thats why so manny fighters moving up. I dont believe in you have to to be multiple weight class champion to be a great fighter.
GGG gets critisized for not giving haters more hope. If you look at their posts when Gennady just appeared on HBO Those times they hoped for his next opponent to expose that bum. After about 3 or so down they started "only a puncher" song. Now in his 3d season on HBO their only hope is that he moves to LHW
Darn! How can he weight 164 (165 on many occasions) - this is total disrespect to haters...

            Thanks

I think he'll push 155 as long as the GGG fight is up in the air. I think he probably wasn't having THAT much trouble making 154 & making 155 isn't THAT much easier right now, but he's looking for his edge & he & Oscar feel that weighing 15+lbs on fight night is key to him winning vs GGG & perhaps others. I definitely think GGG's side is thinking 160 to get to 157/158 on paper is their strategy. I'm just not fully on board with Canelo agreeing with 157/158.

Without thinking too much about the 154/160 layout I think they can push GGG out further than GGG's people would wanna push things out. I mean right now I think they can easily push out GGG til May 2017 by throwing Lemieux in the ring in September. Maybe in May 2017 BJS will be ready for a big fight or Eubank Jr or someone else will be. So then GGG gets pushed back to Sept. 2017. Who knows whats happening in 18mos at MW.

GGG's team needs to tread lightly, Canelo is the money guy & the draw & public opinion for this fight not happening isn't gonna go south on Canelo as bad as they (& some fans) think it will.

It must really suck for Wade to fight small like that; having to lose 15.6 pounds in 30 days.

There is. All I'm saying it is hard to drow a clear line "he's cutting weight for 155lb" .

i'm not sure lemieux can make 160 again, never mind 155. in fact i don't think any noteworthy MW can make 155 right now. as long as canelo insists on that particular weight, his only feasible opponents are big name welterweights like bradley and mediocre jr middles like rosado, and i don't see him getting a pass on that for much longer
