Yes... you are right. There are fighters that have the ability to regain a lot of weight in a 24 hour period (I know Canelo is not the only one). But now the story is different, he has a 160 pound belt that he needs to defend on a MANDATORY fight with GGG and he still refuse to fight at 160.

A lot of fighters have made concessions on weight or money to get their big career payday. Canelo did it against Floyd. Floyd gave up the weight advantage to fight Oscar. Bhop did it against Oscar by coming down in weight. The list goes on. GGG is in no different position. He is a good fighter but he is not a star and doesn't bring much to the table PPV wise. If he wants the fight he comes to Canelo's terms, not the other way around.
He can take the fight at the terms given or pick up another paper strap against another no name bum like Wade and make a fraction of the money doing it. Canelo's knows his worth in this fight and won't budge on getting his. Haters can be as salty as they want to but he has earned his spot.

You answered your own question, because he fought a handicapped fighter. I don't think Cotto beats a prime Martinez who is simply too big. Look at what happened to his next fight against another middleweight (Canelo) he looked small and got bullied around the ring. At least Cotto fought 2 middleweights though. Canelo fight night comes into the ring as a supermiddleweight at least.

What is Canelo sacrificing? Nobody is stopping him from coming in at his comfortable 155lb weight.

              ----ALL ROADS LEAD TO CANELO----

CANELO paid the cost to be the boss!
CANELO was thrown to the wolves like they did Fernando Vargas , but wound up on top, he took many risks gave up a lot to many fighters , things he didn't need to do but that's what the greats of the past have done and he followed suit , that's why he has been chosen by boxing fans world wide as the new King of the sport. Check CANELO'S age , resume , record , pro debut age , total PPV #'s sold, the #s he does on regular HBO ,plus he sells out arenas/stadiums and in this fight negotiation he is the A-side & the Lineal WBC Diamond Belt Champion, now compare that to what the challenger Golovkin has not done and his #'s , and the math becomes very simple : CANELO picks the weight & Venue etc and CANELO gets the lions share of a 90/10 split and a big chunk of the back end PPV money, that's what's fair ladies and gentelmen.

*side note: those who mention rehydration weight , that means nothing, the weigh in weight is the only weight that matters. Those who mention , mandatory status, don't worry the belt will be on the line. Those who don't like Golovkin being the B-side and fighting at a catchweight for a belt , don't forget he pulled that on Andre Ward so now he's getting a taste of his own medicine.

-CANELO will dish out a brutal beating to the pampered protected ducking diva known as lil g , but the extremely violent beating will be dished out on SAUL "GUILLOTINE" ALVAREZ' terms ! Abel Sanchez be prepared to have the white towel in one hand & the smelling salts in the other, cause your gonna need to use both ! This fight will be a lot easier for CANELO then people think, trust me. CANELO is simply the better fighter, period.

He doesn't need to fight a no name for the belt. This fraud champ Canelo forfeits, and the belt is Gggs.

he has over 40 fights and has been a pro a decade...his age means little....floyd didnt become a household name til he was a pro over ten years man...they all had to put in work

Here in Georgia....he is not...just being real....literally no one knows him outside of my mexican homies and a few hard core people.

Canelo is being unreasonable about the weight

and GGG is overstimating his star power considering he has very little, tanked on ppv, and literally has 0 wins over marquee names

if they want to be great they'll negotiate and make this fight before next spring

It's not a sacrifice it's the weight limit division you are the champ in. Quite being and drop to junior middleweight.

Yeah, I agree. If he can get down to 155, he definitely should and just whoop Canelo. It might suck to get down to 155, but the beatdown he would put on Canelo would be worth it.

Otherwise, GGG could just wait and see if WBC strips Canelo.
