It's hard to take the ridiculous record padding from most of the olden day fighters seriously. Truth be told, his resume was nothing special, and he lost a lot of fights. He even drew with someone who was like W20 L20 or something very similar, when he was approx 28. Hardly a master boxer if you are losing round after round in his prime vs a punchbag. No way would he beat the likes of Amir "King" Khan, or Robert "the Ghost" Guerrero. Cash in

He can be beat h2h, but it takes more than that. Boxing historians and fans want fighters to put it on the line as many times as he did and win as many as he did. Like winning 70 fights in a row is wow isnt it, even if they are bums. You can fight 70 bums but most would likely have an off night and lose.

And yet people slate Floyd for getting to 49-0 with about half of those fights against current or former champions and never having a real off night, never switching off and getting wiped out with a shot or anything

People slate Floyd for various reasons, not least because he talked a bigger game than he delivered. In the end, what most of his apologists seem most impressed by is the money he made (e.g. one of the guys posting above). Floyd "retired" after the Hatton fight when the Cotto fight was at its hottest. Came up with lame excuses for not fighting Margarito. It was tedious. But that doesn't matter to his worshippers who have the "hater" accusation to fall back on.

Modern "champions" (usually just sanctioning body belt holders in fact) often fight once a year and even then it won't be the fight people actually want to see. And far from being slated, fans will often make excuses on their behalf for this lame behaviour.
