But Taylor beats him, no question. Taylor a natural middleweight, and the best left jab in the division for a long time.
believe me, Wright will have the better jab June 17th...

Lee was very feared and avoided.

He was a switch-hitter who threw a lot of crazy **** with both hands, and when a bomb landed you felt it

That the truth Judah is a little punk *****. i know he did that on purpose he is looking right where he throws (mayweathers junk) when he lets that punch go. I have watched the fight several times and that **** was on purpose to save himself.

1980 London Schools title (156), 1981 Junior ABA London division champion (156), NABC Class C title (165, 1983/84 season), 1984 London ABA champion (165).

More notably he fought an exhibition in Los Angeles against Michael Nunn in 1984, Watson was reserve for Team Great Britain at the Olympics and Nunn was reserve for Team USA at the Olympics (both 165). Watson apparently almost knocked him out with his right hand and had to hold him up, and it wasn't until three years later that he heard of Nunn again when Nunn won the NABF title and was touted as the 'next big thing' etc (this gave Watson A LOT of confidence, because he'd almost knocked him out a few years earlier!).

Michaels first loss came when he was 16,against 18 year old Garry Sanderson in the final of the junior British ABAs at Class B(Sanderson was a runnerup the previous two years),his next loss came against former champion(and southpaw)Roy Connor at the 1980/81 seasons NABC Class B semifinal. He had a 20-2 record with the Crown and Manor club before switching to the Colvestone club, spending over 12 months at Colvestone doing nothing but sparring with Kirkland Laing,Dennis Andries and England international Darren Dyer. He entered the 1983/84 NABC Class C championships and went all the way, winning the title in style. He beat Roy Andre in the final of the 1984 London ABAs at York Hall(Andre was coming off a win over world rated Tommy Corr at a dual meet),and then caused a big upset beating undefeated England number one John Beckles in the English final and at this point Mike was seen as our best hope for a medal at the 1984 LA Olympics. What happened next is Mikes most embarassing moment,as he lost to average Scot Russell Barker at the ABA semifinal stage(every ABA final in 1984 was held at Wembley Stadium and the winner of each final would automatically qualify for the Olympics,GB had a full team in 1984,so Mike missed out on going to Wembley Stadium and winning the ABA final in style and then obviously the Olympics,it was Barker who went to Wembley and got easily beat by average Brian Schumacher who had German parents,it was Schumacher who went to the Olympics to represent GB but Watson had already beaten him twice previously). Mike didnt throw a single jab against Barker,he just looked for the knockout the whole fight and even got dropped for his troubles. Barker beat him clearly,Mike was swinging for ghosts that afternoon.

Watson always came across as a smart mover in the amateurs, built like a brick ****house and possesser of a right hand punch that could end most fights. But that one afternoon against Barker,he looked awful.

He had alot of natural ability though, had entered the schoolboy championships with only six months boxing training and against all the odds picked up the London title with smart moves and many saw him as a really good prospect in those very early days.

Watsons pro fights were shown on BBC Grandstand on a Satuday afternoon(as was his NABC Class C under-75 kilo final win over Graeme Hall at the Grosvenor House). I remember the loss to James Cook,Cook outhussled Watson. It was close,Mickey Duff always said Watson had a virus when he fought Cook, and Watson looked to have the better tools but Cook beat him fair. Watson looked inexperienced in the loss to Cook, lack of inside work and didnt seem to know how to deal with being tied up and pressured.
