Yeah that part surprised me, and Im also surprised that NBC bent over backwards and let Haymond pull a move like that, theyre spending millions of dollars on his idea and he wont even show them his business plan.

Hes a sneaky guy, also interesting he funded this whole PBC thing with outside investors when hes got a lot of money, that way if it tanks he still wins because he still has all of these fighters under contract that he used promises of fights on PBC as a reason to sign. Hes also willing to put PBC on any network, so I bet he uses that as a negotiation tactic, getting them worried he will use another station instead of them.

Im just shocked that the NBC CEO didnt have more balls and let haymond play control games like that.

He's empowering your countrymen to thrive in this sport, unlike Arum/Top Rank who only seem to showcase Eastern Euros these days.

I know you don't like his complexion, but you should learn to embrace what he does for your boxers.
Hes got a shady side to him but he takes care of the fighters and thats what they need. No more of the Don King and Arum types. The fighters are the guys risking permanent brain damage or even death every fight, better the money goes to them than the networks and other businessmen.

Look at 50 cents garbage promotion company, he isnt getting his fighters fights. Look at the garbage rigo and ward went through with their managers/promoters. Haymond gets his fighters good fights.

asking to look at his business plan isnt asking for much.

        • have been on press row and in press conferences with dan many times.

you guys have to understand that a lot of these writers are nerds that did not grow up being treated well by their peers. rich, famous and powerful people showing them attention, treating them like they're important, putting them on a pedestal, etc goes a VERY long way in getting favorable coverage.

not even necessarily as conscious overt bias, but people are always going to naturally favor those they like.

and it's also natural to favor events you enjoy. but when you're covering a fight, the events you enjoy are often shaped by far more than the fights themselves. an expensive comped meal the night before the fight. drinks and late night chats about the "good ol' days" with the promoter. possibly in his home.

NBC hasn't spent a dime on PBC. They are being paid $20M by Waddell & Reed for airtime.

This is true. It also seems PBC has gone out of there way to shun a lot of the major writers, which of course is going to affect the way they cover them. It might have been a better move just to be nicer to them.

Rafael has written a lot of bad stuff about Arum and Oscar over the years, but they didn't cut him out.

              • PBC feels HBO has the boxing establishment in their back pocket and it's a waste of time and resources to suck up to them the way HBO does. PBC's focus is getting mainstream sports attention. anybody reading rafael is going to watch anyway.

Typically get him on Friday Night Fights, try to look impressive and go from there. That was the basic strategy for lots of smaller managers and promoters for years. Sometimes these 12-0 guys are local guys brought in to lose, make someone else's record look good by beating an undefeated guy, sometimes these guys win and get bigger fights or perhaps lose but look good, which is geat exposure. Sometimes these guys work there way up. Lots of variations. That's gone now. No more Friday night fights. The other networks are PBC affiliated and HBO. The others the Mexican networks. So the options are getting smaller and smaller.

                  • I'll say the 2nd part of this was more interesting then the first. I hadn't recalled Buffer was in play as the PBC announcer & that he didn't get the gig cuz of PBC's commitment to Showtime. That should kill the idea that Haymon wasn't looking to go back to Showtime again once he went to "free TV". Since this is a guy seen as anti-Haymon & he's the one saying this I'd assume it should be so anyway.

                    • ya out of the two parts so far, the buffer info was the only thing that hadn't already been mentioned in countless articles. everything else was total retread nonsense.
