They should just call this event... The catchweights.

Good Fight
It's interesting that Gomez wanted to fight at the junior welterweight limit yet Herrera was the one who wanted it at Welterweight.
Either way glad this fight is official. Herrera is a seasoned veteran and one of the best in the junior welterweight division. He has the experience and skill advantage. While Gomez has the youth and speed advantage.
Freddie Roach and company have a busy few months on their hands now that they have to get their best prospect ready for not just a former contender but a guy who is a major step up in competition.
Oscar is giving Frankie another huge opportunity. He better not blow this chance.
Now that 2 of 3 undercard fights are finalized. I wonder who gets the last fight?Comment

I love seeing these threads where people act all critical of catchweights & act like catchweights in non-title fights is some crazy new concept. Get outta the house & go to a clubshow & you might see 2 or 3 no-name catchweight fights on a card. Catchweight fights are unbelievably common.
For example, from a random NJ show yesterday:
http://boxrec.com/show/727752
Thomas Lamanna, 150lbs, Kendal Mena, 149¾lbs
Tommy Rainone, 148¾lbs, Maurice Chalmers, 147½lbs
Isiah Seldon, 165, Michael Mitchell, 165lbs (maybe this was contracted at 165 or not idk, but odd both guys are 165 on the money for a 168lb title)
vacant USA New Jersey State super middleweight title
Omar Brito, 132lbs, Bienvenido Diaz, 129lbs

Frankie just turned 24 yrs old not making excuses for him but besides Canelo there hasn't been anyone recently that became a star in their early twenties. Errol Spence is 26 and he's still considered a prospect. Star building takes time a Herrera win is a right step in that direction for Gomez.Comment

Right. Why kill yourself to make weight in a non-title fight? You want a weight where both guys will be at their best.I love seeing these threads where people act all critical of catchweights & act like catchweights in non-title fights is some crazy new concept. Curtis Stevens announce on Twitter he'll be facing Patrick Texeria on the Canelo/Khan undercard. I'm guessing that's the third fight, was wishing De La Hoya could get Ortiz on the show but still excited to see a great night of fights got my tickets ready and my hotel room booked can't wait for cinco de mayo weekend. It's interesting that Gomez wanted to fight at the junior welterweight limit yet Herrera was the one who wanted it at Welterweight.
