To be successful you have to be willing to spend money lose money and stay in the game. Unless you are an active top tier fighter ala golden boy
What is going on with Roc Nation Boxing?

The whole Rigondeaux situation was a huge embarrassment for the company.
With the type of decision making they've shown, I don't see them going very far.Comment

Like any new business, it will take time to build and become profitable. All of the idiots on this site who are saying negative things about Roc Nation or PBC will develop a sudden case of amnesia two to three years from now and will become speechless.Worst major promoter in the business. Their first mistake was signing an old fighter on his way out. Their second mistake was signing a commentator who is a part-time boxer. Their third mistake was signing a fighter who can't draw flies to **** and apparently can't properly fill out a Visa application. But somehow they've managed to make things worse. They had a great deal with Gary Shaw and ****ed that up. They screwed Andrade and are getting sued by him. They created bad blood with the WBC by not paying Cotto's sanctioning fees when he refused to. Sometimes you gotta take a L. It wouldn't really had been an L because they were the lead promoter and made a lot of money from that fight. And as the lead promoter they did a horrible job. Looking from the outside in you'd thought Golden Boy was the lead promoter. Hopkins and Oscar were doing all the legwork and interviews.
Even with all those mistakes they could still fix it but for some reason they refuse to do so. I went to look at their website, which you have to really search to find. First I typed in rocnationboxing.com, nope. So I had to go to rocnation sports. Click the boxing link. Then click on one of the bios and it took me to their site, throneboxing.com What type of name is that for a boxing website?!?!? For those that don't know, Jay-Z considers himself the king of rap, hence The Throne. But that doesn't make any sense to the average boxing fan who is a white male in his mid-late 30's. Roc Nation really has a platform to introduce boxing to a younger generation. To those who follow their music. To those who go to their concerts. Jay-Z has 3 mil twitter followers and he rarely tweets so when he tweets you know it's important. He hasn't tweeted all year. He never even tweeted about the Canelo-Cotto fight. And from what I've read HBO and Golden Boy weren't happy about his lack of promotion.
But let's look at his extended Roc Nation family. Beyonce has 17 mil followers. Kanye West has 20 million followers. Kim Kardashian has 42 million followers. Rihanna has 47 million followers. DJ Khaled has 3 million followers and is the most followed person on Snapchat. And I haven't even totaled the number of followers their artists and athletes signed to Roc Nation sports have. If they all tweeted, Snapchatted, Facebooked the fights they could reach tens of millions of people. And it's free advertising for their fights and the sport. The Ward fight could be sold out if they put forth an effort. And how does a company that's primarily a music company not know Too Short is holding a 30th anniversary concert in his hometown on the same day, in the same city, as their fighter? Why even schedule the fight on that day?
This company doesn't know what they're doing. The ideas I put forth isn't rocket science or some marketing secret. This is all common sense. I don't see Roc Nation lasting long in boxing. They've burnt to many bridges in a short period of time. And I liked the fact they put boxing on BET. The more channels the more audience is exposed to the sport. They should change their name to Roc Bottom Boxing.Comment

There is probably some logic in this that'll keep RN in the sport longer then they should be if they really do suck at it & just spew money.
With $50M in boxing you can do big things. And I don't think he's even spent THAT much yet. Think they still got less than 5-6 shows. They got like 20 or less fighters. Cotto, Ward & Rigo being the name guys, but they also got some solid prospects like Dusty Harrison, former TMT member Luis Arias & they recently signed top US amateur Darmani Rock (Roc & Rock ya'll) whos yet to make his pro debut who could be some great ROI type guys.Comment

Read Original Zero's first post and Eff Panda's. They tried to come in and sign big names like Wilder, Thurman, and Broner. If they had those three then the mistakes they've made wouldn't be so bad. But they have a fighter who is on his way out. A fighter who is immensely talented but doesn't seem to know what he wants to do with his career of if he wants to fight or commentate. And a fighter who cant even properly fill out a Visa form. They also had Visa problem with Harrison's opponent. Their foundation isn't solid. Even if Ward beats Kovalev where does he go from there? Neither one of them are stars and can't sell tickets so they can't use each other to catapult to superstardom. They put together lackluster promotions. There is no buzz for Ward-Barrera. I heard two Ward fans on youtube talk about the lack of promotion in the Bay area.Comment
