Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Unsure If He'll Box Between Barrera and Kovalev Fights
If Andre Ward defeats Sullivan Barrera, the unbeaten former super middleweight champion isn't sure if he'll try to squeeze in another bout before fighting Sergey Kovalev. [Click Here To Read More]
Since they are both such tough fighters he could fight a relatively low class fighter in between. But it's up to him if he needs the rest before Kovalev. It's good to stay active in his case since he hasn't been very active for the past 3 years.

Barrera is a low level fighter. He doesn't need to go to any lower level guys. Alot of fighters had amazing runs and this would be nothing in comparison, you don't need to pad your record with bums or hasbeens after every decent opponent you face. That's a very Haymon-ish strategy.

if u dont see talent in barrera but bought ggg vs lemueix please slap your fuggin self..
Ward needs another fight. Fight again 4 months after March 26 in late July and then fight Kovalev 4 months after that on November 19. It works out perfectly.
It would be amazing if he can get Shabranskyy for July so he can take three zeroes in 2016.

How about I slap yo momma's big ole' booty instead?
Barrera's decent. I just don't think going to a lower level opponent after him is necessary, he could use someone like Fonfora as a good step up from Barrera before Kovalev.

agreed on the fonfara part..but if he feels like he is clicking there will be no need for a step up in his mind..only in ours..he wont worry about us bc he'll be giving us kovalev either way soon
Barrera isn't a great test for Ward in relation to fighting Kovalev. It'll be good to shake off the ring rust, and to test the new weight, but thats all. It'd be beneficial to fight a top light-heavyweight after Barrera, but I think Ward is naturally talented enough to go without.

I'm guessing there is probably more up side in not fighting in the summer (might get a pay bump if he beats Kovalev for his last HBO fight vs a similar payday for a July fight as he's getting for Barrera & probably would fight a similar level opponent either way) & idk if him winning or losing vs Kovalev is gonna matter much if he does fight in the summer. As a boxing fan I obviously would rather see him active vs inactive during the summer, but I'm sure that decision isn't as cut & dry for him as wanting to fight.
