I don't think anyone is saying HBO the network is broke. People are saying HBO the network is giving HBO boxing less & less money to do **** with. Thats just a reality. And its been going on for about 20 years give or take. This is nothing to do with the ROI in a particular division. It could have to do with the ROI in boxing as a whole.

The $400K UFC champ Aldo got for headlining a PPV vs McGregor was his MINIMUM guarantee. That's what he gets paid just for stepping in the ring as far as the Nevada State Athletic Commission is concerned. Aldo got a nice cut from the PPV. He most likely walked away with 4 or 5 million when all was said and done. Rousey makes a sh+t ton more $ than any featherweight boxer on the planet. Yeah, her salary vs Tate was around $550K...that's before her cut of the PPV. She walks away with millions off of her fights. McGregor's fight against Diaz was the first publicized $1 million UFC purse. That's what he was guaranteed to get just to set foot in the ring. He himself said when all is said and done he made around $10 million for that Diaz fight.

The problem with the boxing model is this:

Boxers make too much money too soon for fighting guys that are no threat.

In the UFC you only make good money once you fight and beat a guy that's a threat...and you keep doing it over and over again.

Boxing = mismatches on HBO and Showtime 9 out of 10 times. In the UFC it's #1 vs #2 in their weight class ALL THE TIME.

I like boxing better. But 95% of the time the only reason a boxing match is occuring is because the favourite knows they are going to win. Just look at Crawford. Lundy and Jean as opponents, give me a f+ckin' break. Garcia-Salka, a f+ckin' travesty.

That sh+t would never and will never fly in the UFC.

      And that's the difference.

$500K apiece for Loma and Walters is more than fair. In the big scheme of things, few people give a f+ck about these two.

Stop using the UFC as a comparison. It's different. The best actually fight the best...all the time...and if you're headling PPV's that pull in over a million buys you are making big money, better money than guys headlining non PPV HBO and Showtime cards
You got any proof'? Or are you just pulling numbers out of your ass

He's reaching deep inside his ass. He doesn't even know how many PPVs UFC sells as the numbers they release are all lies.

Yea, I remember rampage Jackson said Dana lies about the numbers becAuse his contract had a ppv sold clause. He tells the public they sell x when in reality its Y and that's the number he goes off to pay the star

Here are UFC's PPV buys going back to 2001. Keep in mind that they do a PPV every month. If they are really pulling those numbers and paying their fighters less than $1M for an entire card, then those guys are pulling off the greatest heist in human history. Then again the Fertitta brothers are worth 1.6B and 1.4B respectively, so I guess it's possible, but most of that money comes from their casino business.

I'd take the bet UFC fighters (with a s) have gotten $4M+ for fights, but I'd pass on the Easter Bunny & Santa Claus bets. Its well established the big name UFC fighters get PPV points. Randy Couture's self leaked UFC contract back in 2007 had PPV points that would have put him at $4M if he sold 1.3M PPV's. We are almost ten years later & there are been many bigger names, with I'd assume better contracts & with more PPV buys than Couture tended to have.

Just off my head I suspect McGregor, GSP, Silva, Jon Jones, Rousey have made $4M+. Hell its been reported Nate Diaz ended up with $3.5M off the McGregor upset & he was the B side.

                    • Maybe this was said before but maybe HBO is taking a page from UFC. Put good fights on, pay low salaries to fighters and profit more cause of that. It's working for UFC isn't it?
