Most of team USA got very lucky draws. The only one that wasn't so lucky is Paul Kroll who will more than likely have to face Roniel Iglesias in the prelims.
AIBA should have done a better job with the draws. It makes no sense how Alberto Melian and Robeisy Ramirez had to fight each other so early in the tournament. Those two were the best boxers in that weight class (in this tournament). Then Robeisy gets robbed.
Meanwhile Shakur Stevenson has a very easy pass to the Semifinals (and he still struggled against the Colombian). It just doesn't make sense.
Arthur Biyarslanov (Canada) and Danielito Zorrilla (Puerto Rico) are the two best boxers at this tournament at 64kg and they have to face each other early in the tournament as well. It just doesn't make sense.
Meanwhile unknown boxers have to face each other and get easy passes to the semifinals.
AIBA has to fix this crap for the Olympics.
I also think they should start making Qualifications more difficult. A lot of the competition in this tournament is really poor. How about start having World qualifiers instead of Continental Qualifiers. It won't happen though, because they want to give everyone an opportunity.
I don't wanna hear any yapping when shakur wins gold lol.
Kid hasn't even won a National title. He's slow on his feet. The Colombian fighter was getting to him, but he's lucky the Colombian is nothing special.
Antonio Vargas should be the one getting all the hype for team USA. He's a three time national champion and Pan American Games Champion. Shakur gets all his hype from winning the Junior World Championships, Youth World Championships, Youth Olympics which are great accomplishments, but Cuban, Asian and Eastern European fighters do that all the time.
Shakur has not accomplished anything at Senior level. AIBA is favoring him for some reason though. He got fighter of the month even though Pat McCormack beat two better fighters and more impressively I might add.
He beat Raul Curiel who already qualified to the Olympics and he beat Gary Russell, the US #1. He almost took out Russell in the last round as well. He pretty much swept both Curiel and Russell (I gave Russell only one round). Yet Pat McCormack was not even a choice for best boxer.
Meanwhile Shakur beats Great Britain's #3 or #4 boxer, not even their number one and then he beat a Moroccan fighter who got knocked out by Shiva Thapa. Stevenson struggled in that fight. It's a fight they could have given to the Moroccan, but for some reason they didn't even give him any round.
If he gets the Gold medal then good for him. I just don't think he's that deserving of the hype he gets. I don't think he's as good as they're trying to make him out to be, but that doesn't necessarily mean I think he's a bad fighter.

He's going to be feeling like Hitler after the Black athletes won medals in Germany.
GTFO with that crap. Some of you people have race in your minds all the time.
I don't think the kid is deserving of the hype he gets, what's so bad about that? Plus all I said was that he got an easy draw, which is true. He had to face this random Colombian fighter who got stopped by Toitov in the WSB (and he still struggled with him) and now he has to face this unknown Uruguayan fighter. Uruguay doesn't even really produce boxers. That's all he has to do to get to the semifinals.
Am I not allow to have an opinion? Maybe he'll make me a believer who knows.
I don't want Black athletes to medal yet some of my favorite amateur boxers are Black (La Cruz, Toledo, Alvarez) and all of them will more than likely medal.
