Or, lock himself into a year long commitment with Ward who outweighs him by 10+lbs. all on Ward's terms. The same Ward who's had one tune up in 2 years on BET while GGG's been working his ass of knocking out 3 or 4 contenders a year and filing arenas on both coasts. Or. how about he pursue Lara who's made no attempt to engage in a negotiation and offers nothing in terms of a MW title or draw. And so on and so on.
if there were talented fighters in that division and i mean world class ones..GGG wouldnt fight them...the division is so bad it is ran by forner welterweights for about 10 years now

If he loses to canelo then his hype would plummet even further down, he is the favourite going into a canelo fight so I don't see how he gets bigger, win or lose against Mayweather and your name is still out there and your value goes up but not with Canelo as of now sorry.

If by former WWs you mean guys who at one point weighed less than 147, well that pretty much describes every MW ever. Sure, Cotto maxed out at JMW and had no biz at MW. He should've given up the belt as soon as he won it and we could have avoided all this BS. Canelo, like a lot of other young fighters, has grown up - he's now a MW albeit one who at the moment can come in significantly under the limit. He's only going to get bigger. So, who exactly are the fighters you're referring to? Plenty of the guys who were MW champs ended up fighting at SMW. They weren't smaller guys at all.

Statistically, MW should be one of the deepest divisions as it falls within a very common range of weight for most males who are in good physical shape. Wonder how weak it would be considered if GGG never existed.

The only way he doesn't suffer by losing to Canelo is if he clearly wins the fight but loses the decision on the cards. A real possibility if he's not able to knock him out or clearly beat the crap out of him for 12 rounds.

He needs this fight this year or Jacobs or Saunders unification or he's gonna end up being irrelevant
Well, they said he was willing to face anyone from 154 to 168 if it was a big fight. Right now it doesn't get any bigger in the sport than Canelo.

Golovkin needs to take the risk to gain the rewards. If he wins he gains all the leverage and becomes the A-side going forward against anyone else. This is his shot at the golden ticket just like accepting Oscar De La Hoya's terms was Floyd's golden ticket.

the excuses for his low numbers can be bodied real quick..keep it real.

I can see some truth in what Max said, but you made some great points.

Max didn't tell the whole story, he gave the HBO version.

                  That's it right there !

ho-hum, GGG is fighting another can ----------> yawn

And yet as recent as yesterday, a certain golovtard who shall remain nameless, COUGH kafkod COUGH..... was arguing with me that Golovkin does not need Canelo.

My question was, who then ?

Would that than make Wade a better fighter than Khan. The odds mean very little in either fight. We all know who's going to win.

Odd makers have very little faith in Canelo (because of his lack of urgency and willingness to fight when he has to) but they know GGG can fight. There's levels to this and the odd makers know GGG is on another level when compared to Canelo.

No, that is bull****. The odds are 3:1 / 30:1 respectively because Wade is a complete rookie and has no chance whatsoever.

WTF is wrong with these haters?

                      we have an action fighter
                      fighting 3 times a year
                      who is polite to everyone
                      considerate to his fans
travels across the world to promote himself and boxing
                      respects his opponents
knocks everyone out which brings casual fans to the sport which is good for everyone
and what does he get for it all?
                      hate

some people are just sad bitter specimens, aren't they?
