He's tall and athletic and has some power although his power is overrated. He can punch but not as hard as his KO% against bums indicate. He has to punch verry wide to generate that power and his skills are bad.

My first reaction to this fight is that Wilder does not have the defense or footwork to consistently hold off Povetkin, so if he doesn't clinch the **** out of him he'll get beat up.

Or maybe Wilder will smack him early and make Povetkin hesitant the rest of the night. I can't wait to see.

It's all in how far Wilder has come. If it's the same guy who was getting slapped around by Molina then Povetkin should have a surprisingly easy night of work on his hands. I'm talking Perez easy.

If Wilder actually sticks to a disciplined gameplan and makes it an ugly long range jabathon then starts adding the right hand in the later rounds though, Povetkin could be in trouble.

6'2 and 36 years old and the deepest resume of any heavyweight other than Wlad. There's a lot of weather on him.

Then there's the Mariusz Wach example.

I don't think Wilder is much better than Mariusz Wach (judging by Deontay's recent fights, it would be pretty competitive between them). But Povetkin was physically exhausted just punching upwards all night at Wach's face. Even comfortably winning the fight, he was in the danger zone as far as slowing down too early.

If Povetkin exhausts himself like that trying to score points in the first half then Deontay could potentially surprise him during the second.

The one flaw that will help Povetkin and the reason I think he KO's Wilder is because Wilder doesn't know when to clinch. If Wlad wasn't allowed by crooked ref Luis Pabon, to constantly hold and lean on top of Povetkin, I still think Povetkin would've KO'd him.
