Kovalev destroys him. Hagler hasn't fought in 30 years man. It wouldn't be competitive in the slightest and I doubt it even gets sanctioned.

Back in the day, such hypothetical match-ups were silly. We used to have "weight classes."

Today, Hagler would be considered p ussy for not moving up to light heavy. I'm pretty sure most people in this forum think he was a p ussy for not fighting Spinks or perhaps Larry Holmes.

Not only that but the matches weren't hypothetical because guys actually fought each other! Today, Kovalev would not be able to fight him, not because Haggler was far too small, but because HBO/Duva wouldn't let negotiations work out.

You have two beasts. Hagler is a small middleweight beast who usually weighed in about 157 pounds and he was an all time great middleweight. Kovalev looks like a all time great light heavyweight and makes 175 with no room to spare. I don't think any middleweight in history including Hagler can beat this monster of a light heavyweight. Hagler had an iron jaw and was never floored in his long career against the best. Hagler might go the full distance but Kovalev wins the fight. When you have two great fighters fighting each other but one is more than 15 pounds bigger naturally, the bigger man will win. It's not a fair fight. Hagler might beat any middleweight in history but I doubt he could beat the great light heavyweights. That's why they have weight classes.

Not me. Hagler did a great job as middleweight champion. He did a ten times better job than most of today's champions. He defended his title about 4 times a year and never against a cherry pick. He always fought the top contenders or great smaller fighters like Hearns, Leonard and Duran. Hagler fought and beat every worthy middleweight. Staying at your proper fighting weight and ruling your weight class is what being great is all about. Moving up to a weight class you don't belong in to fight the weakest of the 4 alphabet champions doesn't prove much. Neither does draining the bigger champion with a catch weight limit. Even a great fighter will get his ass kicked if he moves too far above his proper fighting weight and fights the best bigger guys. It's a ****** thing to do and Hagler was not ******.

Skill set and over all talent with ability its not close! Hagler is the better boxer.
Koval has fought no one to date, thats not his fault but those are the facts.
What Middleweight Champ stepped up to the Lightheavy Champ to challenge?

That would be TBE Sugar Ray Robinson who was winning on all cards before heat exhaustion stopped him.

These little midget guys jumping around from 140 to 154 have given a false indication that this was done throughout boxings history. When a very young fighter begins a career he can move up in weight but once they're matured its rare they move up unless the competition there is inferior in their minds.

I like Koval and what he brings but in his division he isn't a top ten all era competitor yet. Lets see what happens with Stevenson and Ward, they have good records and skills.
