It has nothing to do with his level of opposition. It has everything to do with how Americans view boxing these days.

Dana White and his stupid ufc are like Vince McMahon. He is a great promoter. He has brainwashed Americans into thinking it's "WAY AWESOMER" to watch Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor roll around on the ground for a couple minutes rather than watch two gladiators display the sweet science for 12 rounds.

Promotion is everything in this country. And that's because the people have attention spans the size of ants. Showtime does a TERRIBLE job of promoting Deontay Wilder... HBO promotes GGG like Dana White promotes his fighters. That's why Gennady is becoming a name here.

Last thing also..... Floyd Mayweather's style and attitude p1ssed a lot of American fans off. We went from Tyson and Holyfield..... To Mayweather. Dana White swooped right in and wooed boxing fans with his blood and kicks.

He's an Olympic medal winner, and has the highest KO % in boxing I'm guessing amongst guys with 30+ fights...

Is it because boxing is just a niche sport these days? Wilder has the personality to draw people in like Tyson did yet he's a virtual nobody outside of big fans of the sport..

What has to change to bring back the days where an American Heavyweight Champ is a household name? Everyone knew who Ali,Frazier,Foreman,Holmes,Tyson,Holyfield were....now people couldn't pick Wilder out of a lineup...
Due to the stereotype of "american's only follow americans".... many think that americans know nothing about other countries etc.

American's KNEW that Wlad was THE champ. They know that Wilder didn't beat wlad... fury did.

He will be if he takes out Povetkin in Russia.

The Boxing Establishment dislikes Wilder for many reasons but they like Da Green most of all and the sport needs new stars with May and Pac on the way out..

He's knocked out, what, 35 bums?

He's got good power but even that is relatively untested, given that the only above average fighter he faced went 12 without any difficulty.

You force he fans to like and respect someone. If he isn't a star that must mean he and his team aren't doing something right.

Because Stiverne is a C level fighter and thats the only name worth mentioning on his resume.

Plain and simple it's the extremely low quality of his opposition that keeps him from being a star. Boxrec ranks every pro heavyweight in the world. Go there and see where Wilder's opponents are ranked. Only Stiverne comes close to being a top 10 world ranked heavyweight. None of the three guys he defended his title against were ranked in the top 20 by boxrec and they were guys I never heard of. Almost all of Wilder's other opponents are ranked below 100th. Some are ranked as low as 300th or 400th in the world. If and when Wilder beats a couple of legit top 10 heavyweights he will be a star. Tyson became famous by KOing top contenders and not by KOing a bunch of bums.

Step up competition and beat them impressively and the stardom will come. He is holding himself back and I think he dropped the ball by beating Stiverne then going back to fighting weak opponents. That killed his own momentum! Don't fight for a title if you're "Not Ready"

You're an idiot, Mayweather was a star whether you like him or not he clearly was and is still talked about even though he retired a couple of months ago.

How did he piss off a lot of American fans?

Dana White is a fool, he makes Bob Arum look like a nice guy.

Wilder fighting nothing but bums, and having no personality whatsoever is why he isn't a star.
