yea that takedown looked half hearted. Like he wanted to stall or needed a breather. Double legs were my specialty and he didnt change levels or get good penetration. He just reached for Diaz' legs.
I understand that.......when its locked in, you're toast..... It just look like he gave his back and gave little resistance as far as Diaz working the move.
Holly Holm got choked the fuvk out....he look like he gave up in my opinion. I'll give it another look
I saw it the same as you did.
Yes, the choke was in deep but he gave his neck up for it.
I wouldn't say he quit. He wasn't in the crook of an elbow. Diaz had his forearm pressing on his windpipe. Outside the comparatively safer environs of the octagon, that move can be used to kill with rapidity, by crushing the windpipe wit a sudden explosion of force. Holm was A, against a woman, and B was not having her windpipe crushed the same as Con Con was.
Of interest to me is Connor abandoned his strongest suit.."striking"... to take it to a place Diaz swims like a fish in water.. the ground. If anything was close to a quitting type of spirit, it's when he abandoned his strength and went for a takedown. Story of the fight for me is he couldnt hurt Diaz... yeah he made Diaz bleed but so does a gust of wind. Couldn't hurt him.
sounds like an MMA zab judah...jk...that wasnt very smart to go for the takedown and your ground game is lacking.....i didnt know how to work many ground moves but had great take downs so my wrestling coach would often tell me to let them up if I didnt get them in pinning position after I shot in for the double leg.
I'd turn my double leg into an inside cradle as I brought the opponent down...seemed like conor was commited to the shot as he was commited to taking a breather
He didn't give up in the choke. The giving up part happened when he went for the take down. However, in MMA it's different than boxing man. going into the sweet unconsciousness isn't nice. he tapped a fight he was losing either way and lives to fight another day without any real damage done.
Getting "choked out" in a sanctioned match with a referee present is no big deal.
It wasn't like Diaz was going to be allowed to keep it on long enough to damage him, or get up and stamp him, or keep pounding him after he was unconscious . . . .
Or like he stayed on his back and took a couple of more shots before the ref stepped in, as he would have done . . . .
He rolled over, gave his neck up and tapped out. Quit.

thats what surprised me. Its like he gave that half ass effort to go for the shot and get on the grown to rest. Then there is almost a full second where the choked isnt locked in and he is just there idle. They teach you wrist control in wrestling. Thats basic stuff

As I said, he already "quit" by going for the take-down. Once he was in the choke, it was over. Whether he tapped out instantly, or let himself go to sleep.

True, and Connor didn't even have the sleep option because of the way the chose was set and the fact that he didn't know the escape. He had to tap and there's nothing wrong with that. In training, you lean when you're done vs when you are still in the game. Guys who never tap don't make it long at all and they look like clowns in the gym. I tore a guy's rotator cuff on accident because he didn't tap and I figured I wasn't applying enough pressure. "Never say die" guys die rather quickly.
Holm was in a situation where she may still escape but was slowly slipping away as blood flow reduced. Connor had a forearm bone right on his throat and there is a BIG difference in the way those two subs were sunk in. Press on your windpipe with your knuckles and see how quickly you have to let go. EVERYONE taps when faced with that and there's no shame in it. Those with experience turn inward like Holy did. Sometimes they make it out, sometimes they don't. Connor just didn't have an option given his BJJ skillset.
I was a huge fan of MMA when it was actually mixed martial arts. Boxers vs kung fu.....shoot fighters vs BJJ, etc. now its all diluted to a basic style. A lil this, a lil that. I wrestled 2 years in high school and if you were in a position or in discomfort, you could tap. I never tapped out, I ended up passing out at a state tournament because I refused to quit(thats the boxing in me)
Watching Holly Holm shadow box while being choked out brought on this question. she went out on her shield and didnt quit. Quitting is frowned upon in boxing. McGregor looked to be winded, frustrated that he couldnt put Diaz away. He admitted he was gassed. So there in lies the question. Did he quit? He gave his back and the choke was locked in for maybe two seconds before he tapped. that was the most basic yoke up, you learn that hold in the streets as a kid. He gave little resistance when he gave Diaz his back and seemed to be looking for a way out.
do you guys feel like he quit?
umm thats why its called mma mixed martial arts......
refusing to tap only to get put to sleep or your arm broken doesnt make u any better. it just shows how weak minded u are. its ok to lose, train harder and get the w in the rematch. thats how a strong minded person think. if u are in a position where u know u cant get out and u refuse to tap, what do u gain from it? a nice quick much needed nap on the mat in front of miliions of people?

wtf does holm gain again from getting put to sleep? holm prolly did wanted to tap but got ZZZZZ quicker than she could raise her arm.
this is the first time im seeing refusing to tap and getting put to sleep is getting praises.
