If they really wanted the belt, you don't accept Cotto's step aside money.
If they really wanted the belt, they refuse to allow Canelo to have this voluntary defense.
They wanted a title fight for a belt and got one.... They got Cotto's step aside money plus... Golden Boy handles Lemieux and his IBF World Championship Middleweight belt.... Behind the scenes, I think GBP traded the Lemieux title fight to GGG as a step aside prize in order to allow Cotto/Canelo to take place... (Smart business by Oscar)

Didn't you find it odd that Lemieux was willing to put his newly won IBF Middleweight Championship Crown on the line vs GGG in his first (And as a Voluntary) title defense ??? Lemieux was full of confidence, but a less dangerous voluntary or 2 makes much more sense than jumping into deep water vs GGG right off the bat....

GGG as a first defense ???
Saunders isn't doing that, Canelo is not doing that either... Why would Oscar sign off on Lemieux if there were no other elements in the equation ??? Oscar's not dumb, he could have easily protected Lemieux but didn't....

Exactly, they gave up Lemieux to give Canelo some breathing room

I was thinking the same thing that a few others here mentioned. It could be giving just enough advantage to your opponent to get a leg up. I'm sure every opponent that GGG fights will be ready for the fight of their lives because if they can unthrone the "true" middleweight king and one of the biggest names in boxing, their career would skyrocket. So you don't want to give your opponent any sort of advantage. Look at Mayweather. He would tell you the same thing. lol

          lol
This is Dominic Wade we're talking about.
Golovkin might as well try to see if he can test cut enough to fight Rod Salka considering he would still more than likely pound his ass Yusaf Mack style.
