With respect, who or what determines what is 'official'? Lineal = official now? I must have missed when that became the case

Consensus will always be the kingmaker. Canelo's 'lineage' has drifted so far from consensus that much it has totally lost its meaning, beginning with Martinez gifted the win against Murray, then to lose to Cotto who took advantage of his poor state and at 159lb, and then for Cotto to lose it to Canelo at 155lb. It'd be nice for Golovkin to have a lineal title in order to full unify the division, but it isn't necessary. Gennady's unified championship is far more legitimate than the lineal MW title as it stands

not fair to compare hagler's situation with gg at all. Hagler got robbed and he had to take pay cuts to get fighters in the ring with him and he also traveled to his opponents turf.
