It still did a lot of buys. Not as much as before the injury/replacement but it's McGregor, so a lot of people would have bought. It just had upsets that's all. No one was saying it was going to be one of the most exciting, so a mass amount of people didn't just buy because they knew. In hindsight it was exciting because the unexpected happened. If a popular boxing card would have had upsets in both the main event and co main event, boxing fans would be saying that 'boxing is alive again', and 'that's what boxing is all about', and 'this is the best fighting the best', 'no divas', 'we won'. Boxing rules allow for the favorite to win, more times than not. Boxing is all about who follows the rules to their styles advantage. This is just a knee jerk reaction. In boxing if you relatively suck at the top level, you suck 9 out of 10 times, with one big upset your whole life. In MMA if you relatively suck at the top level, good news you're in luck, you're one punch away, or a choke away from winning that title. Being washed up and out of shape in boxing is way worse than being washed up and out of shape in MMA.
There's no such thing as a similarly sized fighter getting off the couch with 10 days notice and beating Andre Ward, Sergey Kovalev, Roman Gonzalez, Guillermo Rigondeaux or Gennady Golovkin in boxing. No such luck, no matter who you are.Comment
