I may be wrong but this doesn't sound like a stalker to me. This sounds more like a gangster; Probably one of Leonard's former close business associates.

The reason why I say this is because what stalker would attempt to extort money from a high profile celebrity unless that celebrity knows the person who is extorting it from him.

I can't prove this and I am only stating this as an opinion and not a fact but it seems to me that Sugar Ray may have hustled some shady individuals involved in the mob over an unpaid loan or something and haven't paid them back. Otherwise why would this guy tell Leonard to deposit a large sum of money into his bank account or else.
