His ego didn't allow him to fight Mayweather at 150, instead to save the fight Floyd who also has a very big ego, agreed to 152 (after Canelo initially said 150, then said 154). It was also Canelo's ego that lead him to fight Trout and Lara who fans claimed he was ducking and he wasn't having that. Now his ego is at it again and he will not bend over for a smaller fighter (in popularity). He's the star, he's the A-side, for him the right thing is to stand his ground and not let anyone else dictate anything, especially not someone who just sold 97,000 PPV's while he has a 2.2million PPV, 300k (with an unpopular fighter), 350k (with another not so big fighter), and 900k.

i think GGG can beat him, but it all depends on how much the weight draining hurts him if he is at 80% of his usual strength i think it would be a 50/50 fight.

but really just like everything you don't know and the fighter might not always know, how bad it will be when they lose the weight.

Maybe Golovkin knows something we don't and that's why he isn't willing to go down to 155 lbs.

That being said, its funny how his ego worked with Lara and Trout... but the exact opposite with GGG. His twitter and instagram are blowing up with insults from his fans (and detractors) about his blatant decision to not fight at the middleweight limit yet his ego is doing nothing about that.

Lets be honest you can package it any way you want and put a bow on top but at the end of the day Canelo doesn't want to fight GGG at full strength likely due to having little self belief in him winning. This isn't a size thing where the smaller fighter is looking to meet half way, this is a guy who doesn't believe in his ability against another guy and has too much stardom to take the challenge.

But hey its his Ego that's stopping the fight from happening.

Well Canelo detractors say he is big and that he weighs 170 on fight, and that he is a MW. So if he's the same size as GGG, and Canelo can make 155, then why can't GGG make it if they are the same size? I mean that is rhetorical question, they are not actually the same type of weight. GGG is a lean muscle 160, Canelo would need to gain more muscle to get to 160 healthy(not bloated). When they weigh 170 on fight night, they are a different 170, Canelo has more water weight, Golovkin has more muscle.



Lately it has been 170lbs. It was 173 for Rubio, 170 against Monroe, for Lemieux he was 170 according to HBO commentators.

Because Canelo's been fighting at that weight for a while and never above, his body's used to it. More then likely GGG would be severely weakened by that kind of weight drain.
