I think this is good. While I think Canelo should insist on fighting at whatever weight he chooses (he is the star, he doesn't need Golovkin), he should not hold the belts hostage. Let the MW weight belt go and then call the terms for your Golovkin fight.

If they have an outside contract it's their thing.
as long as is under 160 the wbc will sanction the fight even at CW, is that something new?? it doesn't matter if its a mandatory fight, if there is a contract then the fight will take place at that weight and wbc has no saying on this...

It seems like you guys are new to the sport.

Canelo's first title was the WBC 154 lb. title. He fought Matthew Hatton for that belt at a catchweight of 150 lbs. Canelo blew the catchweight and weighed 1.5 lbs over. The fight was still sanctioned for the title because both men were under 154. Canelo just had to pay Hatton a few extra bills for missing the catchweight.

Not sure what the big news here is. The WBC is saying if the fight happens anywhere between 155 and 160 they will sanction it for their title. Doesn't mean they will force the fight at that weight, the fighters are free to agree to whatever stipulations they both agree on.
Nothing new here. 155 or no fight for GGG.
