Comments Thread For: Canelo: I Don't Know If The Golovkin Fight Will Get Made This Year

that actually isn't true, if GGG doesn't agree he can force the purse bid at which point the fight takes at the full limit weight... which is also unlikely because Canelo and Golden boy will not go through with the purse bid and just vacate.Comment

Than explain those differences, and use big words
In BOTH situations a guy wanted to catchweight a champion, and in BOTH situations neither guy was willing to fight the best in his division at that point in time.

I've explained it like 10 times already but anyone who followed boxing ought to know this.
Hopkins was fighting on low budget USA network-shows with the one off HBO appearances while getting blackballed by promoters because he spoke out against them and took them to court and also testified against other promoters in front of Congress. He was, at the time, the most vocal fighter speaking out against the practices of these promoters. Specifically, Butch Lewis and Don King drew his ire.
So Hopkins was basically promoter-less, an independent fighter unable to get other champions in the ring (both Joppy and Holmes were contracted to King).
Then King announced a middleweight tourney which included Trinidad and all the other champs in the division but Hopkins. Ultimately, in order to join that tournament, the independent Hopkins signed several years of his career to King. I can't imagine GGG making that kind of sacrifice at all.Comment

Golovkin SAID that he was willing to fight feather-fisted Floyd at 154, but will not even negotiate with the young stud Canelo.... is that what you meant?
And, being " willing " to, and actually doing it, are 2 different things.
Stop with the fantasy wins for Golovkin, and NO, Froch doesn't count either

ok fair enough, but this is an extremely unusual case. Hopkins signed a few years of his career to get the big fights with a person he didn't like, if GGG was blackballed and self promoted and the same scenario came up i would imagine he would do the same. I mean GGG just like every fighter sacrifices on the way... When GGG was the regular WBA champion and he had a hard time finding an opponents he offered to fight for free (only benefit was 20 ringside tickets and a ring side logo/banner) against barker a few years back. I consider fighting for free as a champion is a sacrifice. I can't say i know how much GGG and Hopkins sacrificed to get to where they are but that doesn't mean that GGG isn't willing to make sacrificesI've explained it like 10 times already but anyone who followed boxing ought to know this.

You ALL said that Ward needed to get some wins to build that fightI have a feeling that whoever uses the word "marinate" in a positive or neutral context is an enemy of boxing. It is that simple... He wants certain fighters to be protected from the challenges. He invents pseudo-challenges that dangerous opponents should undergo in order to protect his darling (like for instance, GGG should go up in weight - to SMW to prove that he is worthy of MW title, while Canelo defends his MW title at 155 against welterweights). Disgusting!

All we know is that, thus far, GGG has shown no inclination that he's willing to make any kind of sacrifice. None. So if you're happy watching him beat down mediocre opposition then enjoy.ok fair enough, but this is an extremely unusual case.
