The plus side for Haymon in the equation is that JCC Jr. doesn't actually need to be good, because he has that unique ability to have people want to see him get beat up and he is fairly tough so he can soak up damage~

He does have the name value with him... but one has to wonder how much longer that's going to hold out. That dude was getting made viewership on HBO before he left, but drawing meh amounts of people.

I think the name value of Chavez is going down the drain now though... having people/his dad go on air and complain about him all the time doesn't help. Then he shows up to workout about 2 months before his supposed fight looking like the Michelin tire mascot

Different reasoning because Mayorga played the bad guy and JCC Jr. is just someone that people like to see get beat up because his attitude. No title shot vs Fonfara, which was 172. Of course he was always coddled, but for a while some were sold on him being a legit fighter, and he brought top ratings. He's been doing surprisingly **** numbers off HBO.
