He can be more popular all he wants, however he's got to show he got grit and heart to go to war when need be. Damn, how many fights has Cotto gone ballz out even in losing? Pacquiao fight, Margarito fight, Torres, Mosley, Judah, even fought a few weight classes higher Canelo. Cotto got a warriors heart with plenty of skill to go with it.
Verdejo got some big shoes to fill regardless of his popularity just cause he got the looks and personality that reminds PRs of Trinidad. By comparison, Trinidad was already fighting 53-0 like 48KOs Yory Boy Campas, lol.

Like he did with Canelo right. I mean, he fought him 5 months after the second biggest win of his career and 10 months before the biggest win of his career. But as we all know, that Angulo fight in between is what transitioned Canelo from bum to elite.

Likewise, Arum had no problem with promoting Cotto as the jr welterweight champion of the world. But when Floyd came calling, he was "too green." My only question is how the hell is a world champion too green?

The average fan has also become dumber. They don't know the difference between the tough fights Cotto took on his way up, and the bums these young guys are fighting today.

For Christ sake, people are crowning Spence and he's beat absolutely nobody.

"Verdejo looks more and acts more like Trinidad"; basically because they're both black/ afro PRs, they are not shy and can box means they are similar is what he said... BS. I'm a fan of all 3 but lets let them have their separate legacies. And let's wait until Verdejo fights someone we've heard of first
