top-level professional prizefighting will never work on advertiser-supported "free" tv.
Advertisers want guaranteed spots. They have an annual budget to allocate, and want the best exposure they can get for their dollar. They dont want refunds, or credits, or excuses, they want their spots to actually run during the program whose audience they are trying to reach.
Ive said it many times, and of course always get called a "hater" or whatever by the Haymon sack lickers. But advertiser-supported boxing content only works on an ESPN / Telemundo level. It doesnt work at the top end of the spectrum, because an event may be over in 10 minutes, or cancelled alltogether in case of injury. Thats why trying to compare boxing to football, baseball, or whatever is just ******. If Manning gets hurt, the game still goes on with the backup QB. If Thurman gets hurt, the event is cancelled. Im not sure why its so hard for some people to understand that.....
Edit: and yes I know Thurman-Porter was actually bought by Showtime and technically not "advertiser supported", but its a great example of why the advertiser-supported model doesnt work for top level fights......
