In late 2009, Golovkin was the WBO #1 mandatory for Kelly Pavlik. Golovkin wanted the fight but Universum wouldn't do it because Pavlik also held the WBC title and their natural-born German fighter - Zbik had just won the WBC interim title.

When it comes to fighting the big-names at MW, Golovkin has been cursed.

Never, ever compare g string to a great fighter like Hagler. Back then, if there were an opponent for Hagler to cement his credentials just 8 lbs north of his fighting weight, he would have junped on it like a Bengal tiger. Team g string? Not so much

Cursed? We'll fight anyone from 154-168, as long as HBO accepts, as long as we dictate all terms, as long as we get the lions share of the money, and most importantly, as long as your name isn't Andre Ward

Same with B-Hop until he finally got his break. Don King wouldn't let him touch Joppy and Holmes to unify the division. He didn't even let Joppy and Holmes fight each other because he was just bringing in money having two MW title holders making defenses.

Nard was self-destructive in those days. Idk if King would've allowed him to fight Joppy or Holmes (and Bradley, King had all 4 MW champs) b/c Hopkins was demanding so much money for fights. He'd sit out stretches b/c he was unsatisfied with what the networks were offering and was switching promoters regularly.

Hopkins had an opportunity to unify w/ WBO champ Harry Simon as part of the Calzaghe offer from Showtime, but turned it down over money.

Haglers greatest wins are against blown up welterweights and a super blown up lightweight. Stop overrating him as some astronimical great who can't be touched.

Yeah but remember the WBO wasn't even fully recognized until 2007. You only needed the 3 to become undisputed champion and Holmes and Joppy held the other 2.

There were alot of great WBO champs/stars like Eubank & Hammed. ODH was a WBO champ early in his career. Hopkins simply wasn't interested in those fights, he viewed his IBF title as the only title that really mattered.

I remember Hopkins was pushing hard for the Reid fight, until David went with Trinidad instead.

How do you know what Hagler would have did? Did you have a long conversation with him on the matter or did you talk to his mom?

Common sense says Hagler would have stayed at 160lbs no matter what and waited for the Hearns and Duran to cement his legacy and for the big money payday.

Silly fan boy trying to talk for another man.
