Comments Thread For: Kovalev Explains Why He's Not Fixated on Andre Ward, Yet

WBA/IBF/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (29-0-1, 26KOs) is not counting his chickens before they hatch.

A deal is in place for Kovalev to fight Olympic gold medal winner Andre Ward (28-0, 15KOs) in November.

This is exactly why it should have been done already. If one loses the fight is dead, but someone wants his tune ups.

Ward does all that talking about how he wants to fight Kovalev when no one else does.
He needs 2 interim fights first though lol
He really, really wants to fight Kovalev, you guys. Honest. Just not next or the fight after that.

Ward has still yet to fight a full fledged 175lber, doesn't it make sense that he fight at least one or two before taking on the best in the division?

Besides, allowing Ward to acclimate himself to the division only enhances Kovalev's legacy should he defeat him....

Yea, some people can't stand the idea of Ward getting to acclimate to a new weight class. I'm not a Mayweather fanatic but they did the same to him. Expecting him to go fight Golovkin at 160 for no apparent reason other than they were dying to see him lose. Some Kovalev fans are getting nervous...

Why, GGG haters think he should jump right up to LHW and fight Ward.

Besides, Ward isn't unfamiliar with LHW. He was LHW in Olympics and fought at 178 in amateurs.

Ward said the injury wasn't that bad, but he pulled out just in case. I doubt he skipped out on a PPV just because.

Let's stop pretending you didn't suggest GGG jump right up to SMW and fight Ward. Likely because you think he'll lose.

GGG had fights lined up, and people said he'd should take on Ward while waiting for Canelo.
