I feel ya (although not sure about the boy toy part, LOL).

When a promoter wants a fight to "marinate", he means "a loss is real bad for business right now".

But I think Canelo is willing to fight GGG. We'll see after the Khan fight if he makes a move towards a "career" or greatness as exemplified by these fighters.

Hmm - I get what you are saying but maybe I didn't explain well - most sportsmen peak between 24 and 32 years old. Some can extend high performance to 34-35 yrs old (although past their peak) and a few exceptional athletes like Mayweather get into their late thirties. But nearly all are done by 40 yrs old. The fact that Hopkins was even competitive with top 10 fighters into his very late forties is absolutely off-the-charts freaky (ditto Foreman). How old is Roy Jones? 46? .. and look what is happening to him - age gets 99.9% of all of us. And I know - I just totally busted up my knee playing soccer at 55 yrs young.

You are in a minority there with that view. The reason fans want to see it is because it's a competitive fight - maybe 60/40 in Golovkin's favor. Also they are both, more or less, in their prime right now. Wait two years and GGG's prime is gone at 35 and 10 months.

Fishnets tag-team vs. GGG 2 on 1, by the time GGG is 38. @155

I'm just glad this is ODH saying this instead of Saul. Saul even after Cotto said bring on GGG... He needs to keep his word like always.
Once Canelo vacates that title, he is have started his path towards being the next Chavez Jr.

Even the Mexican greats are demanding this fight.

Like you said, Canelo can't be defended after this move.

Stop acting like these dudes are crossover stars. I hope they both lose and blow the fight. Reminds me of Arum trying to let Lopez-Gamboa marinate.

Canelo is too important to GBP, without him they are screwed because he is the door opener. Him losing isn't the end of the world, but him getting moped up is a huge blow and while it is not a sure thing that Golovkin whomps on Canelo it is a pretty big risk.

And honestly Canelo is more important to the WBC than integrity so when they strip him I will actually believe that, especially since they are breaking the rules by having another organizations champ as mandatory.

No, I think the desire to see the fight lies in the fact that it would serve as a "crossover" fight for Golovkin from the underground appeal that he currently enjoys to the mainstream appeal that his team and his fans deeply desire.

Canelo has never fought above 155 lbs. in his entire career while Golovkin is a career middleweight. While Canelo has good wins on his resume (Trout, Lara, Cotto), none of those performances were dominating in nature and each of those guys is much smaller, much weaker, and much less talented than Golovkin. When you take that into consideration, and realize that Canelo squeaked by those guys at a weight 5-6 pounds lighter than where Golovkin wants to fight him, you'd see that any result other than a Golovkin wipeout would be surprising.
