GGG's main goal has always been unification.

This right hereUnification is secondary to the "big fight".
1. Willing to move up for Froch and Chavez Jr.
2. Taking step aside deals from Cotto and Canelo.
He could have unified the entire division already if he played his hand. He would have been handed the WBC belt and would have gotten to Andy Lee, who was willing to fight him, before Saunders did.Comment

Lee/Saunders was negotiated well before the Lemieux and it happened shortly after. How would he have gotten Lemieux and Lee?Unification is secondary to the "big fight".

GGG has had nothing to gain in forcing Cotto or Canelo to vacate so far. Cotto wasn't going to fight GGG. So, the smart choice was to take the $ and let Canelo have a crack. In the meantime get the IBF belt which they did. Nothing lost in letting Canelo win the WBC belt. In fact, you now have a guy who's at least possibly willing to fight you...Canelo wins the belt as expected. Nothing comes out of 3 week negotiation period....so agree to voluntaries and negotiate later. In the meantime, fight for the WBO belt, and if that can't happen, get the IBF mandatory out of the way...that's where we are now. Forcing Cotto or Canelo to vacate would have done nothing but forfeit any leverage GGG would've had in negotiating a PPV fight with Canelo and getting a shot at winning the lineal title. If all he wants is the WBC belt, he can hold firm on 160 and have Canelo hand it to him. Canelo can take the fight later when he grows up.Comment
