What do Devon Alexander, Dominic Wade, Curtis Stevens, Erislandy Lara and Austin Trout have in common? You figure it out.

A slick boxer is one that uses a lot of head and upper body movement and can land sneaky counter shots from awkward angles. When I think of a slick boxer, I think of guys like:

    Pernell Whitaker:

    Roberto Duran:

    James Toney:

In the pocket, making them miss with head and upper body movement, and making them pay with accurate counter shots.

What do you think of when you hear the term "slick boxer"?
I agree with your definition, but I also consider many boxers slick who don't use philly shell or cross variations, and you can also be slick and offensive.

I agree that Devon, and Trout are poor examples, and I agree that Toney, and Sweet Pea are fantastic examples, but there are levels to slickness and it can be developed in different ways. Fights you may not agree are also slick are guys like Tyson Fury, Roman Gonzalez, Maidana, and Golovkin.

      You my friend nailed it!

Canelo can be slick as well. He's slow on his feet but has great head and upper body movement and can transition well from defense to offense.

                  Curtis Stevens is slick?!?

Prince Naseem was one slippery SOB. Martinez could be slippery, but he used a lot of movement like Lara does. Ward probably fits the word best out of the current crop. B-Hop is slick too.

While I agree 100% on Pernell and Toney, bro, I can't agree on Duran. Although Roberto's skill is under-appreciated, he was known primarily as a brawler. Young Ali was slick; Camacho was slick; "Sugar" Ray Leonard was slick. I can think of many who fit that description, but not Duran.
