I don't necessarily think the fight in itself is too soon but I'd have liked him to of faced more varied opposition before being thrown into a title shot. It's not an insurmountable challenge though.

It'd be disappointing if they rooted against Joshua. I do think this place tends to divide people along either/or lines more than would be the case out there in the physical world.

They are right about the support though. Like else where, travellers aren't particularly looked upon favourably in Britain. Fury wasn't ready for the level of scrutiny that winning the title conferred and his comments haven't gone over too well in certain quarters. Plus Joshua was part of Team GB during the London Olympics. Their success, particularly the women's, was a massive boost to the sport. The country really got behind them so he's already got the wider publics sentiment on his side.

I think Martin is a perfect matchup for him and the perfect belt to win based on the IBF rankings. Hearn's timeline for Joshua after his win against Whyte was 18 months. With Wilder and Fury having other obligations and likely to fight each other before they fight Joshua I think this is the right time for Joshua to get a title. By the timeline set for him by Hearn, Wilder or Fury will be free next year.

That's a good point. The thing that I wasn't fully taking into account is how comparitively poor the IBF rankings are. There's scope there for fighting lesser opposition who are still within the top five. When the WBA have Shannon 'The Loose Cannon' Briggs at number 4 and the WBO have Joshua ranked higher than Wladimir Klitschko you have to be a special kind of organisation to be doing a worse job.

Haye's comeback was against a guy ranked number 10 by WBA. Based on video footage apparently.

He wasn't even top hundred on boxrec.

Haye koed him with his first clean connection.
