What's so funny is that this Kov/Stevenson could have been dealt with in 2014 but instead of ironing out a deal between each other, one fighter went ahead and signed a fight with B-Hop...

Now this year with Hershman out as president of HBO Sports, the plan is to open things up for all fights to be made on the network regardless of who promotes or manages a fighter...this has been proven with Golovkin fighting Wade.

Kovalev never wanted the fight in the first place.

im sure he meant cause he thought he was a heyman fighter i would hope cause if not stevenson there are not many better options than fanfora

Enough with the lineal rubbish already

All this talk about "lineal" champions has got to stop. Kovalev is the best but Adonis is lineal. Golovkin is the best middleweight but Canelo is the lineal MW champion...

This medieval notion that you have to beat the man to be the man doesn't cut it in modern times. Comes right out of fairy tales. Or "Highlander" movie. So I wait for Stevenson to grow 80 years old, get him in the ring, knock him out and become a "lineal" champ?

It is that... also not like Fonfara is at a shortage of opponents.
He's being lined up with a possible rematch with Stevenson and that's much more winnable and easier to make.

No if there was only one title per division:

            - Stevenson would never have won a title in the first place. Lets be honest.

            - If somehow he had, he would have vacated it to avoid Kovalev/Pascal/Hopkins. He's carefully weaseled his way out of all three but they've fought each other a combined 5 times.

There should be some loophole where you can't even be ranked in the top 10 when the other top 3 have fought each other 5 times and you fought Tommy Karpency.

There isn't really any circumstance in reality or fantasy world where Stevenson's "lineal" title has any meaning. His best win is Fonfara. He is not the man at 175. Never has been. Never will be.

yeah but then there's a thing called boxing analysis where you actually see how a boxer fights. Stevenson is a blown up version of Rigo, older, and half as good. He pivots, jumps out of the pocket, and counters with the hard left, or rather, a sharp Southpaw counter or pot. whereas Lara is more conservative and moves around the ring getting 1-3 hit combos. Whereas Pac, is the pouncer, combos, shimmies out...

Clearly Stevenson has no skills as a LHW Southpaw...

Kovalev's manager is on crack if he thinks Sauerland would allow Braehmer in the ring with Kovalev. The guy fought one top 10 lt. heavy in his career eight years ago and lost badly at home. Sauerland has been feeding him creme puffs since and will continue to do so, no matter what the WBA orders

                  Correct.

Stevenson does not really want the fight with Kovalev.

im still not so sure kovalev is the better fighter between the 2. I think if i was betting kovalev stevenson i might have to go with kov cause of age. its a shame well never get to find out. if were talking style matchups tho i actually think kovalev is a better style for fanfora then stevenson but thats just my opinion

I wouldn't mind seeing Kovalev Vs Fonfara. (Or a Fonfara Vs Stevenson rematch).

I wouldn't particularly mind Braehmer if it was Kov's last fight before a Ward showdown.
But, for different reasons, i see problems with both fights being made.
