I actually think Canelo is a vastly underrated fighter by most, his skill set is much better and varied than he often gets credit for.

Also, fights against Mayweather, Lara, Cotto and Trout by age 25 suggests he's the opposite of protected. He's gone out of his way to make fights that people claimed he would duck due to the styles.
yea but none of those guys punch hard and could have knocked him out. it's one thing to lose to a pot shotter and another to be knocked silly. also when you have judges that love you its not that big of a risk just knowing if you stay upright you have a great chance at winning. the sven ottke strategy.

Five consecutive catchweights against underseized opponents? When everyone knows without a shadow of doubt that you come in at light heavyweight on fight night. It's ****ing insane, how can anyone defend this ****?

Even if he didn't weigh as much as he does, it would still be a bunch of bull. Floyd gets criticised for getting a catchweight he didn't ask for (golden boy offered the damn catchweight), and a catchweight he couldn't even make (weighed 150lbs), but this guy gets a pass for five catchweights in a row all in the name of ducking people his own size?

It's pure bull, this guy is a damn fake.

He is popular and to the casual boxing fan, who just jumps on the bandwagon because he is Mexican or whatever...they think he is better than what he really is. The guy can fight dont get it twisted he is a very good boxer, but great?...not yet..he might be one day, but currently he is just very good.

You're aware that with the exception of Cotto, everyone else benefited from the one pound margin.. Right? Lara is just as big as Canelo on fight night, so is Angulo and Kirkland, so what exactly is this "undersized opponents" rant all about? now, if you were to have mentioned Khan then I would be forced to agree, but when Lara comes in rehydrated past 170 lbs, Angulo fights at middleweight now and we all know Kirkland's weight issues, well... There's not much to truly rant about. Cotto wanted the catch weight himself and it benefited himself more than Canelo so I don't see the issue there.

However, the entire Khan ordeal is regressive for Canelo's career at this point, now that's a fight where he is truly picking on a smaller fighter. Even so we all know Canelo is rather limited and can be outboxed, so genuine interest exists for this fight among many fans.

Personally I think Canelo's situation is unique. He's shunned and ridiculed by the Mexican boxing media, despised by many American fans yet overhyped by his followers and seen as the second coming of Quetzalcoatl. Personally I think he's talented, not very protected since his initial step up against Trout and a very good combination throwing counter puncher. His defense is severely underrated and right now he's the main person to detest since GGG fanboys love to bash any significant name in and around their idols division. Add to the situation the fact that Canelo landed the Cotto fight, won he WBC and lineal straps off of the Rican legend, is a proven PPV attraction at this point...and I would be a disgruntled GGG fanboy at this point too.

****** post. Canelo is overrated compared to who? He's protected compared to who? FACTS Canelo by the age of 25 already has faced what 10 world champs, multiple HOFers, multiple fighters who were top 10 p4p ranked when they stepped in the ring against him. There are numerous top fighters TODAY who are older then Canelo and have not accomplished half as much as him. And as for protected how the F you face Trout, Floyd, Angulo, Lara, Kirkland, Cotto and are protected? Name the fighters out there who have faced tougher competition then Canelo has during this stretch? If you can't then you just a hater. He's literally fought EVERYBODY the fans have asked him to fight. GGG is just the latest fighter that idiots say he won't fight. Just like Lara before him, Cotto, Trout, Kirkland ect and he ended up fighting ALL OF THEM.

Overrated? Possibly although I'm not sure I agree.

                    Protected? Silly.

The guy fought Lara as a voluntary. He's fought Mayweather, Cotto, Trout and big punchers in Kirkland and Angulo. He's hardly "protected".
