Open Discussion About 155: Why Are You Supporting it? Are You Against It?

IBF title was around the waist of the weakest champion(K9 Bundrage) in an utterly unmarketable fight, and WBO was in its own self-inflicted hell for a while (Andrade being champion, without any backing from a TV network, while also being arguably the most avoided guy at the weight).
Now, with the shakeout being what it is, WBC/WBA/IBF 154 titles are all in the PBC orbit and the WBO 154 title (with some blatant BS) was moved onto being around the waist of Liam Smith, a solid Brit fighter.
Canelo has the Khan fight, and likely three fights lined up for September; versus Cotto II, vs Liam Smith for the WBO 154 belt, and versus Gabriel Rosado (to play off of the 'Mexico versus Puerto Rico rivalry'), all at no heavier than 155.Comment

Alvarez would've fought Cotto for the interim EBU sideweight title for ****'s sake; why folks continue to act as if Alvarez had actually placed any value in being middleweight champion is laughable.
Canelo says he's a junior middleweight, Canelo's trainers say he's a junior middleweight, Canelo's promoter says he's a junior middleweight, yet, to hear folks like you tell it, the WBC 160 title is so prestigious that all of that is superceded.
If Golovkin and his camp want the WBC belt so badly, Alvarez will likely be happy to express mail the vacant belt to him.Comment

So why did he take such a lopsided B side purse vs champ Cotto?Alvarez would've fought Cotto for the interim EBU sideweight title for ****'s sake; why folks continue to act as if Alvarez had actually placed any value in being middleweight champion is laughable.

My main problem is that he holds the mw title. Any title fight should be at the full limit..canelo can weight whatever the **** he wants.Comment

Because fighting Cotto (with the hyped 'Puerto Rico vs Mexico' rivalry) was finally Alvarez's second opportunity to break into superstardom (After Floyd and Pacquiao, Cotto is arguably the third biggest star in the sport, with only Klitschko competing with him at the time).
Alvarez bent over one more time, finally knocked off a name fighter, and has now likely elevated himself to the point where Alvarez vs a broom (on starpower alone) is a 500k-600k PPV fight, compared to the 300k-400k that was arguably the case before that.Comment

My only issue with it is that Canelo made weight so comfortably these last couple of fights that he could easily be fighting at 154.
I get 155 for the Cotto fight, but for the rest I'd like to see him just fight at 154. He's not a middleweight and he doesn't need to be holding a middleweight title.Comment

if you're a fighter and want to fight him you meet his 155 demand. If the fighters wouldn't accept his petty demands he would move up to 160 or stay at 154. So he's the money man and if you want the money you meet his demand.
If you're a fan and you don't support his 155 weight, you don't watch him. Most people and casuals don't give a shlt and still watch.
So pretty much it boils down to him being a popular name and bringing good pay days to the other fighters. If you want the big payday, you fight him at his weight and if not, he'll just pass you along as there are PLENTY of fighters that are willing to fight him at 155 to make some money. SEE Khan.Comment

That's fine, strip the fraud and he can keep fighting WWs at 155. Who's next, what's your guess? Berto got some nice Ppv exposure recently. Guerrero is always gameif you're a fighter and want to fight him you meet his 155 demand. If the fighters wouldn't accept his petty demands he would move up to 160 or stay at 154.
