Golovkin isn't really doing his part to make the fight with Canelo bigger. Facing Dominic Wade doesn't really "marinate" things very well, does it?

Alvarez on the other hand is going to attract a lot of attention and make some noise with the fight against Khan.

I'm starting to think that a 90-10 split in Canelo's favor against GGG isn't really that unjust.

Do you get it that if GGG doesn't fight Wade he will be stripped of the IBF title?

How would that going to make his fight with Canelo bigger?

One thing I don't see anywhere about this is if this is a IBF mandatory fight mabe by the IBF , does GGG still have to fight Tureano Johnson later on the year or will he be free to fight Canelo or Saunders

Golovkin would be free to fight Saunders or Canelo because unification fights take precedence over mandos.

If Canelo vacates or is stripped in May, GGG could possibly be fighting BJS this summer with all 4 belts on the line.

Then sometime in 2017, Canelo would be crawling back trying to get a fight with the winner. That would be hilarious!

Hopefully not, he was less deserving than Wade.

Antoine Douglass is fighting Soliman next month and a win will put in him into their top 5, N'Dam was also supposed to fight next month and so is Derevyanchenko, so there'll be a list of guys pushing Johnson for next IBF mando that Golovkin will be due for 9 months after the Wade fight.

this fight takes care of his mando obligation and he wont have another one due until 9 months after this one......


as to Johnsons status, here is the IBF relevant rule, and according to paragraph (c) it would seem that Johnson will have to work his way back up.....



5 D. Notice of Mandatory Obligation
1. General
The Championships Chairman will notify the Champion and the mandatory challenger approximately sixty (60) days prior to the mandatory due date and the boxers must observe that obligation. The Champion shall negotiate with the leading available contender as designated by the Championships Chairman and the President. If they are unable to negotiate the terms of the bout within thirty (30)
days, they have the obligation to proceed to a purse bid under the procedure set forthin Rule 10.

(a) The Champion and the mandatory Challenger may not box any other contestant within 60 days of the mandatory due date.

(b) A Champion’s failure to comply with this obligation will be sufficient cause to have the Championships Committee and Board of Directors consider withdrawing recognition of the title.

(c) The Challenger’s failure to comply with this rule
will result in the Championships Committee recognizing the next leading available contender as the mandatory challenger and moving the challenger to a position below #10 in the rankings for at least six (6) months.
