True, he did but this is just bizarre Dazed. I don't recall ever seeing anything like this.

Yep. He ****ed up. From Roc Nation to HBO to the Goosen saga to inactivity...he ****ed up. And they're taking advantage of it. While Triple Tuneup gears up for his next top opponent.

With a deal in place to challenge light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev in the fall, Andre Ward will jump into the division with a 12-round fight against Sullivan Barrera on March 26.

If this is accurate the delay in signing was HBO and Ward arguing over if this fight was the 1st or 2nd in the 3 fight deal. Issue is still not resolved.

I don't know if I've ever seen anything like this.
It's always one thing after the next with Ward. Either injuries, contract problems with Goosen now contract problems with HBO. Now it's almost a guarantee that the Kovalev fight will be in jeopardy because he wants another fight and HBO doesn't want to give it to him. SMH.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that Ward would attempt to pull out of that fight.

The turdy fanboy haters got exposed again.
People seem to bring the haterade for Ward and I don't get it frankly. I mean yeah we would love to see him fight as much as SRR if he would lol, but its his talents and he did clear out the division (imo) before he moved on up.

I also don't think its a bad thing for a fighter to go for home town appeal. oakland is a good boxing town and people who fly to Vegas can fly to oakland...yeah the airport is a backwater lol, better have cash for the shuttle drivers.

People seem to just hate him for this decision.

Check out the movie "Diva" the main protagonist, an opera singer with a voice comprable to the boxing talent of SOG will remind you of Ward. He is a bit divaish but I do think that one has to stick up for oneself when dealing with the powers that be....we just don't know the Goosen situation. We do know a bit more about the HBO situation granted.

I wasn't mad he when he first tried to get his contract situation addressed. He has the right. But he lost. He should've accepted and moved on and went about this a different way.

This is just ridiculous. Ward just comes off looking bad. He has to realize HBO isn't backing him like they used to. Damn waste of time and career.

Barrera is not really a threat. Crazy how people perceived him to be one. To be fair though, it was mainly Ward haters that did that. Ward fans are just now taking advantage of a guy that Ward haters made into a threat when he really wasn't.
Some advice when you dislike someone make sure you actually do your hating intelligently.

Also, I see some people saying that Barrera was this amazing amateur when in reality he was not. He didn't even win a national title. He hasn't accomplished anything since 2003. He wasn't an Olympian or a World Championship participant. He got 3rd place at Nationals in 2002 and 2003, but didn't participate in Nationals after those two years. That's how good he was. So he was basically irrelevant in Cuba for six years (from 2003-2009). Cuba probably has the most depth in amateur boxing to be fair though, but still. He didn't go to nationals from 04 to 08. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is correct.
He then made his debut in 2009.

I needed to write some of these things. I don't remember people hyping up Barrera when there was talks about Beterbiev facing him, but now he's an ATG. Hilarious.
This post is not so much to "hate" on Andre, but to expose Barrera a little before everyone goes crazy over him. Ward should win pretty easily. Barrera's only chance is if his power can become a factor. I don't think he's fast enough to do anything though.
OK. Useful information. Thanks for that. I had little knowledge of Barrera prior to this and was following the consensus opinion of him.

Based on what I was reading Wade (18-0) is a terrible waste of a fight for GGG whilst Barrera (17-0) is a good challenge for Ward. I'm surprised to learn of their parity.

It's fascinating to see the spin people apply to make their fighter look better than someone elses.

HI-Tech has an excellent analysis of Barrera, that he's not as accomplished as everyone makes him out to be. 100% spot on.

But there is a big difference between Wade and Barrera - age. Wade is young and inexperienced. He's also a MW, just like GGG.
Barrera is older than Ward, very experienced, and is a natural LHW.

Barrera is a much big threat to Ward than Wade is to Golovkin.
