Not sure they are any better than an even well past it Thompson and I doubt any would take it on 4 weeks notice. Given the circumstances I think Thompson is about the best you could ask for.
Sure he has lost but he hasn't exactly lost badly to anybody outside of a peak Wladimir.

Why not? Ortiz isn't a slave to the WBA and his fight with Ustinov is pretty much set for June. This is just a stay busy fight, good for him. I wish more fighters would stay active even if they're just record-padding stay-busy fights like this.

***Also this is a short notice fight at a low cost. Those higher ranking fighters wouldn't agree to this readily.

            Agree.
Not that bad of a fight, for stay busy short notice. Better than some fighters scheduled fights.

This is ironically better than the opposition the WBC champ has had.

It's crazy that this is an HBO main event. The undercard is a more interesting fight.

Huh? Ali/Vargas ain't the Main Event? Why isn't Golden Boy pushing Ali? They screwed him on the WBO title fight with Bradley an now putting his title fight on the undercard of Ortiz vs. Thompson.
