Because the Canelo fight is win-win.

Khans a huge underdog and everyone's expecting him to get knocked out. If he wins, incredible. If he loses, oh well, he was supposed to.

All whilst getting paid a lot of money.

If he fights and loses to Brook, that's it.

If he loses to Canelo, the Brook fight is still on the table.

well to be fair i have never thought he was scarred of any fighter just like mayweather these guys egos are to big to be scared of a fighter. but i do think he is scarred to lose to brook. when it comes to canelo hes supposed to lose so as long as he puts up an ok fight he knows his stock will still rise and losing is not the end of the world in anyway

Because it'll be easier to dismiss a loss against Canelo due to the superior size ans strength, whereas not so much with Brook. I'm guessing Khan also wants the ego of being UK's best fighter, he wouldn't have that with a possible loss against Brook.

              That's pretty much it.

His reasoning doesn't hold up to scrutiny here.

Most fighters, whether gloved or not, aren't particularly feared of being beaten, they're feared of being embarrassed. Of having some aspect of the self taken away. Fighting a bigger fighter with the odds stacked against him and bravely being bested is well within Khan's conception of himself. Being stopped by Brook isn't.

So whilst I don't agree with his logic I do agree with his decision. This is a better fight career wise as has already been stated. Plus there's no love loss between him and Brook, so why should he chuck him and Eddie Hearn a bone? Khan doesn't need Kell Brook at this point, whilst Kell on the other hand, despite his obvious talent, has misguidiedly done little more than build himself up as Amir Khan's nemesis. He's locked himself into a bind.

Unfortunately for himself and Hearn, as Eddie found out with Frampton, fighters that aren't under your contract don't dance to your tune. It's understandable that as a British promoter he wants to set up huge domestic rivalries but by becoming fixated with Khan at the detriment of securing other top level opposition he's unwittingly climbed into Amir's back pocket.

The injury Brook sustained from being attacked and the mandatories haven't helped of course but Amir's action has forced Eddie to acknowledge that Brook now needs a big fight that doesn't involve Amir Khan. Hopefully as a learning curve Hearn will be less reluctant in future to put most of his fighter's eggs into a basket that they aren't actually holding.

After embarrassing himself before Mayweather I'm sure part of Amir is now loving having Kell stood around like a d*ck holder.

Bcuz you know it's less embarrassing to get ko'd by the bigger guy in Canelo than to lose to Kell. No one with a brain expects Kahn-artist to beat Canelo. He will just say the weight class is just to much for him... But he knows his career would be over if he loses to Brook or Garcia at welterweight.

Because you won't be able to cash out after you lose to Brook.
