Same reason Froch, Calzaghe, and many others have; to make a name in America. I don't have much opinion that one way or the other but if you're going to make that argument, I'll take the opinion of British boxing greats over yours.

Why don't these american bums travel? Trout is basically a nobody right now, should travel to Sibiria for the right fight. Why you think so many fighters get less views, less fans and less appreciation, like Ward, Wilder etc? Because they refuse to leave their backyard. All they do is talk and when it depends they are hiding in their backyard.

I'm sure the fight could get made, as Smith doesn't strike me as a guy who doesn't want to test himself. I doubt Trout would travel though, and neither should Smith if he doesn't want to. He's the champ.
