as a fan id like to see them learn.

    should they be obligated to?
    of course not.
    let them choose.
their own loss for not making themselves more appealing/easily understandable to fans who want to get to know them more.

It helps so it's obviously a good thing, but at the end of the day fans pay to see them fight not talk. It shouldn't be a rule that says "You have to speak english if you want to fight in America"

        No.

It would help them with marketing and promoting, but it's not essential. The majority of English speaking fighters don't learn another language, it's unfair to expect it of others.

Maybe English speaking fighters should learn to speak Spanish to attract the Hispanic fan base....Afterall Floyd was fighting his 2 fights a Year on Mexican Holidays for a reason.

Maybe he can finally start saying something other than "Cinco de Mayweather".

No. Although business wise I think it only helps you & never hurts. I'd suggest guys like Manny & GGG don't draw as well as they do if they hadn't learned English & been able to better show their personality via their own voice in a language most viewers watching them understand.

I don't think its arrogance. I lived in a 90%+ spanish speaking country for a notable period of time & I didn't learn spanish cuz I was arrogant about it. I just suck at learning different languages on my own & didn't wanna spend 20+/hr trying to learn it via a teacher. I suspect more boxers fit into my reasons than arrogance reasons.

Plus the reality is is it takes a long time to not sound like an idiot with a new language &/or just have much confidence with another language based on people I've seen who have learned another language so I imagine for many boxers who mainly live in another country & only come to the US to fight once or twice a year perhaps the time put in to learn English doesn't seem like a good use of your time.

Let me clarify, these boxers get rich in America. A boxer is not busy when a fight isn't scheduled; meaning there is an abundant amount of downtime to learn English.

Learning English is not difficult. These guys simply refuse to learn. It's arrogance. I have been learning Spanish for less than a month and I have learned a considerable amount in, like, two weeks.

Soy serio.

My Spanish is pretty garbage but it just goes to show learning a new language is not an insurmountable undertaking! Dueces.

Lmao, this is how much English Chino Maidana knows.

It doesn't help as much as you might think, look at Pac, he knows decent English and all he does is embarass himself when he opens his mouth.

I would rather they go the Margarito route, if they know English, F it, speak your native tongue in an IDGAF way and force the translator to work and be your middleman, like a sav. WAR TONY!!!

Well i believe any fighter that sets up home in another country its courtesy and polite to learn there language.......after all you are working for them and they do pay you god money....you dont have to be a proffesor at that language but its nice to show your trying......golovkn speaks five languages, kovalev speaks three ...mind you adrien broner and ashley pheophane dont speak english between them lol.....canelo for instance...he demands to fight on mexican independent day in the states, he gets paid fantastic money by the american public and his employer golden boy and yet he has not even attempted to learn english ..i personally think that is ignorant and rude......i would want to learn if i wanted to liked all over the world
