    Was there any other option? Cotto and Canelo carry all the cards because they have the huge followings that are built into each fighter's birthright no matter what happens, and no matter what belts they let be stripped from them. They can fight at any weight they want and call it "middleweight." Nobody can stop them.

    Or maybe you mean that Golovkin should have said look, I'll fight Canelo at 158. That may have worked. If he does that now, he may lose face.

    At this point, when I look at Golovkin's body, I don't see a lot weight he can drop.

            He agreed to take the fight because it's a big money tuneup fight for a bigger fight against GGG.

            Do I personally like the fight? No. But it didn't matter who he chose for his tune up fight, people were going to criticize no matter what, so he might as well make the tuneup as big (money wise) as he can.

              Given all of the public pronouncements by the WBC, they could've sued that organisation in an attempt to enforce his rights

              Now that would likely have seen Cotto & Canelo throw the belt in the trash but at least he would have a chance to fight for the title

              As it stands:

              a. Cotto has done a runner back to his real weight class without having paid GGG his stand aside money from the Canelo fight;

              b. Canelo is fighting the 5th ranked WW ; and

              c. Khan, if he wins, will probably defend against Roman Gonzalez at amirweight on Pakistan National Day

                  Would YOU tune up for a true middleweight like hard punching Gennady Golovkin by fighting a 140 lb. has-been?

                  I can't think of anybody MORE DIFFERENT from GGG than Khan.

                    And who can he fight that would be remotely close to GGG?

                    It's a big money fight before he has to tackle the monster that is GGG.
                    IF Canelo decides to retire after GGG (if he takes a beating he might),
                    at least he had a big money fight before that.

                      management thinks a lot less about flack from guys on NSB than you'd think

                      they took an easy fight. i'm holding out hope that they'll eventually fight golovkin for the title, and that this is just a way to stay in sahpe and make some money in the meantime.

                      it doesn't look like GBP has any other real options with canelo than to fight golovkin. this 155 lb business does make me thing they're putting it off, however.
