Kovalev pulled a ***** move re matching Pascal and avoiding his mandatory. That guy can **** and he can box and they ducked him in hopes Ward beats him. If he fights Ward he won't have to worry about his size and power unlike if he fought his mandatory, I hope Ward pulls out or loses so Kovalev has to fight this guy.Comment

Ward is too seasoned, well schooled and too good to get dominated by anybody. Having said that I favor Kovalev because of the huge difference in power. Skill for skill they are about even but kovalev's punches are 100x harder. Ward's better defensively but for him to win he will need to throw a lot of punches and make kovalev respect him. This however will put ward in a disadvantage, he will have to fight kovalev off him and that's a battle he cant win given their respective punching powers.
If this fight happens, Ward could make it competitive for a while, but he wouldn't be able to hurt Kovalev. And, sooner or later, Kovalev would hurt Ward, and hurt him bad.Comment

The difference in power would be critical. Ward hit Paul Smith with everything and never came close to buckling him. Smith wouldn't have gone one round with Kovalev standing there to be hit like that.

I agree the power difference is critical but I don't believe Ward won't be able to hurt Kovalev, He was able to hurt Froch and Kessler with shots they didn't see coming, if he can pull that off against Kovalev then I believe he will get enough respect out of Kovalev to stop him rushing in (something he doesn't really do anyway). He doesn't have to really hurt him, just keep him honest the same way Floyd used to do to his opponents.
Other misconceptions that haven't yet been proven, We don't know the extent of Wards durability, the mark against him of being dropped by Boone goes for Kovalev too. We don't know how physically strong Kovalev actually is.... punching hard does not equal having a lot physical strength, I would expect a true boxing fan to know this. I read a lot of people saying Kovalev will be too strong for Ward to work the clinch but as far as I know he hasn't been in any infighting situations where this has been displayed.
All in all, it's just a fascinating matchup that I can't wait for, I'm hoping Ward looks imperious against Barrera so the hype doesn't stall.Comment

Smiths face told a slightly different story and by the end of the fight he was hurt and backing away which caused his corner to throw in the towel.

Seriously, if I could tee off and hit Paul Smith in the face as many times as Ward did, I would damage his face too!Comment
