I can't get too up in arms about these sorta situations while still feeling like I'd rather see Ortiz vs a better opponent.
The reality of Ortiz's situation is he's in that place right now pretty much every guy who's burst onto the scene outta nowhere has been. He's too good for the risk vs pay dynamic for most of the guys fans would rather him fight right now. So basically if you beat Ortiz you beat a old guy no one knows or barely knows &/or you beat a more dangerous opponent than the pay you got represents the risk you took. That tends to lead to you fighting the 61st best guy in your division more than someone in the top 10 or top 20.
And for full disclosure I'm no fanboy of Ortiz, I actually feel he's extremely overrated right now, but I've seen this dynamic 1000's of time at this point. Its pretty predictable in fact & you'll see it more often than not when a guy comes outta virtually nowhere to get a respectable high level W.
I'd also agree HBO control's the narrative of their fights & boxers better than anyone in the game & sure they are doing that here or will be (I haven't heard a whole lot from them at this point on this specific fight tbh), but thats what they are supposed to do. You're supposed to hype fights & boxers in the boxing business or you aren't doing very good boxing business so I don't think you can fault them or make it a negative for doing that & excelling at it.
