He is a terrible broadcaster and his knowledge is not that impressive.

I respect him because he genuinely loves boxing, and he is not a bad commentator but he is definitely a beta and a terrible post fight interviewer. I still remember how he frightened he was when Mosley interrupted Mayweather's post fight interview. Merchant wouldn't have even blinked and he was never afraid of calling out a fighter.

which is weird because he makes a living on sportsnation and before that, in a similar styled show on foxsports, talking about the most trivial sports topics and turning it into a controversy.

I agree Max often fails to bring out the best opportunities in some interviews. Such as last night, Kovalev was bringing it with some of his statements about punishing people that deserve it etc and the best thing Max said in reply was something along the lines of 'do you think the fans will like that'...(something along those lines I don't quite remember exactly)

He also looked totally thrown out of his rhythm when Stevenson and Pascal tried to speak at the same time, he genuinely didn't know what to do or say and in a situation that wasn't all that dramatic that is pretty weird for a guy that is a professional at what he does.

All that being said, I don't think he like Kovalev at all. Most of the time he wouldn't look him in the eye and he even seemed uncomfortable. Some of Sergey's comments seemed to make him look that way anyway, especially when Kovalev made the quacking sound Max had the type of reaction you'd have if you didn't really want to speak to someone, it was weird.

I usually don't like Max much, but I couldn't see anything wrong with this interview.

Loved how he almost couldn't hold back a giggle while he held back Chickenson with one hand.
