This one's too tough to call. In boxing you don't get old based on your actual age. More based on your wear and tear in the ring. Hopkins is 50 and can still defeat most of the top light heavyweights. Fernando Vargas at the age of 22 was already a shot fighter. The beating he took from Trinidad took a physical toll on him and was never the same. Age isn't the issue.

Isn't that what the doctors are for?

This guy is not in shape to fight, this one is.

        Enforce the current rules.

        Why make more?

i do belive froch has a fair point....almost every other physical sport you will not see a person over the age of 40 and ironically boxing is probably the most dangerous sport. The whole idea of boxing is to evade and use your reflexes and speed ...being washed up you have none of that anymore and that is dangerous, I think it's got a lot worse now with the ages and who is allowed to box....I don't remember any fighter other than George foreman boxing over the age of 44... I really don't....there's more over 40's now than I can remember from the 80's and it's the commissions allowing them to do that....it should be done on performance and any fighter no matter who it is should be evaluated if for say you have suffered to severe beatings or knockouts in there last 2 fights..fighters should then be brain tested and checked physically and then if there ok to box and they suffer another bad loss instantly struck off medically....that's down to the commissions to fix this ....we see it with Briggs,Hopkins,Jones, morales and there even encouraging ibeabuchi to return.....so yeah if your past it and you have no chance of winning any more titles then they should be stopped...but should be on an individual basis

I understand Roy needs the money but beyond that I just don't get it. Roy and Gerald McClellan were real good friends, Roy wouldn't even visit because he didn't want to see Gerald that way cause it would force him to retire. I know he doesn't want to end up like that, so why keep going when you are getting knocked out by guys you would of iced in a couple rounds in your prime?

In this recent video, the doctor suggested a 3-stage approach.....

                  1) identify the fighters who are at higher-risk

                  2) reduce the risk of re-injury

                  3) have appropriate "intervention" available and accessible to every fighter who sustains an injury

I am NOT suggesting/supporting the idea that headgear should be introduced into professional boxing, just commenting on their approach.

Yea Froch really went out a lot lowering then he thinks. Says he is too big for Triple G but wont fight hopkins. Dont think I ever heard him talk about Kovalev either. Froch was a warrior that turned princess.

Age discrimiation is illegal for almost everything but age isn't the issue. Brain damage developed over a fighters career and the apparent lack of monitoring of it is the issue. Boxing will have to adopt concussion protocols as well. They will once the lawsuits start coming in, just like the NFL. It's a shame to see fighters who have lost motor skills and normal speech patterns, all of them fought way past their prime and took major damage. Roy is headed that way if he doesn't stop.
