People kept wondering what Haymon's end game was. There has to be. It never came. I thought leaving Showtime dry was enough and it was all he needed to showcase what he needed to. PBC starts and the showcasing continued. Williams, Lara, Andrade, Charlos... Haymon would rather pit them against cab drivers spending millions of dollars.

I don't think that boxing's future depends on shifting to a UFC-like format (surely models like that of NBA/NFL/MLB wont work). if there were more competitive matches on network tv, that would help for one thing. as the resident hardcore boxing fan in the office, I've heard numerous gripes from casual channel flippers regarding boring fights.

You can't make competitive fights consistently without some sort of power structure aiming the top guys against each other. Right now & for the this whole era & beyond everyone just gots their fingers crossed the boxers/promoters/networks will all agree to make the best fights at the right time. Anyone reasonable would agree that hasn't worked out so well & in 2016 boxing fans spend more time talking about all the guys ducking then debate who's gonna win the BIG fights that seldom occur. Boxing for sure needs a NFL of boxing that will make the big fights happen.

Like I've said in another thread, boxing is huge when it wants to be huge. I mean hyuuuge.

So it's not really a bad investment. Problem was, with all the money and power Haymon had at his disposal he rarely made fights that were meaningful to casuals. The mismatches outnumber the competitive ones. Lara, for example, fought 3 cab drivers in a row for his last 3 fights earning a total of less than $3 million. For what? For nothing. These are not the kinds of fights you would want your money to be invested in.

It's not a good investment. It's mostly a break even business just enough to keep promotional companies afloat, ie, they get to employ people, get paid regularly... It also depends on the fighters you're investing in. But then that's only when he's not yet a big star. He becomes a star, then you're back to where you started. The star becomes greedy as f*k and wants all the money and leaves you with a couple of thousand bucks. Just like what Floyd did to Showtime.

Waddell & Reed got lucky, as did boxing fans. If it were not for their financial downturn, Haymon's dastardly plan could've succeeded, it would have been mismatches & pseudo protection-agency for the next 5 years and Waddell would've blown a lot more money.

Why do fans still say silly **** like this? Look at the schedule for the rest of the year and tell me who is putting on the best fights? HBO is putting Crawford vs Postol on ppv and wouldn't even pay for Lomachenko vs Walters.

Now Lomachenko has to fight Martinez who is a AL HAYMON fighter btw.

I agree 100% and I actually hoped haymon would have done that because he had the roster. Instead he maintained the status quo. There was literally nothing gained. The only positive out of this is that showtime went back to giving us great matchups.
