Great to know Ward's finally back in the mix. Wonder if he can pick up where he left off.

Dawson was so weight drained that he got KO'd during sparring. Ward was unwilling to budge for him.
Let's not forget how Hunter acted when they brought up that they wanted the CW. He went bananas, didn't want fans finding out the truth.

Ward also wanted Floyd at 160. Oh, he was joking doe. Was he?

Aaah, so you decided to fly with the after-match excuse ?
Just like you did with Pacquiao's injury.
Because, that's not what Dawson was saying BEFORE that fight.....
Dawson (31-1, 17 KOs) called out Ward in his postfight television interview, going so far as to say that he was willing to drop from 175 pounds to 168 to challenge Ward.....
..... "I've been wanting to go down to 168 for the past year or two," said Dawson, who did look a bit drawn at Thursday's final news conference. "I make the weight just fine. I came into camp at 180 pounds."
Dawson had many of his early bouts at super middleweight but moved up before he had a chance to fight for a title.
"I feel like now it's time to go down to 168," Dawson said.....
..... "People are so wrapped up about the fact that I'm moving down to 168, but I'll make the weight comfortably and I'll be ready to fight."

Also.....
" I definitely think I can continue to make 168. I’m, like you said, I’ve kind of got the best of both worlds. If I go down, if everything works according to plan and I win the title, and I’m looking for good fights in either weight class. I think 168 is a lot more loaded than the Light-Heavyweight Division is. I also do think that those guys at 168, including Andre Ward, will be coming up to Light-Heavyweight real soon, so as I say, I’m in a great position. I could go back to Light-Heavyweight and wait for those guys or I could stay at 168 pounds and contend against the Kesslers and Froch and those guys, so I think it’s a great position to be in ".....

Dawson stated many times that he wanted Ward's title.

Plus, until this fight was announced, he (or his team) has been trying to cherry pick absolute garbage for his opponents. This is the first sign that shows Ward still has the drive to be great.
Where is that sign from Golovkin ?
Not one world-class fighter on his resume, but he could have 4.
He COULD have fought Ward, Lara, Canelo, Cotto, but CHOSE not to.
And yet, you fixate on Ward, who has already proved himself ?
Double-standards much ?
Or is it low expectations ?

if the guy needs every advantage, what are you so afraid of?
I see a guy that DEMANDS home court advantage every single time out, irregardless of opponent. Now for a guy that is supposedly the best boxer out there, and a guy that you yourself admit, has never needed any help ever winning a fight, to feel the need to have a security blanket like that, is a glaring red flag for me.
Next, he gets a bigger guy to drain down to the point of being a zombie. Yeah, I know Dawson initially agreed to drop the weight but he then wanted to meet in the middle and WARD SAID NO. It is what it is, and let's toss all the specifics out the window and boil it down to the basics; Ward fought a larger man moving down in weight.
Then, Ward tries to lure a smaller man up after he [Ward] just missed the 168 limit for his last fight and when the smaller man wants to meet in the middle, WARD SAID NO. That's twice now that he's refused to compromise.
After that, we have Ward trying to get other drastically subpar 168 pound guys to meet him up at 175. Trying to take advantage of both weight and technical ability.
Now, if I'm the type of person who looks at a person's actions to gauge what type of character that person has, which I am, then I don't get a good vibe from Ward. Secondly, I like boxers that put in work, that go out there and give it their all. Guys that are willing to sacrifice to make a good fight occur and are even willing to disadvantage themselves to take on a tough challenge.
I don't like this "diva" mentality that boxers have today, it's some weak garbage. Ward, to me, is a diva and I think he comes off as arrogant.
So, I'm not afraid of Ward, I just don't like him. The fact that people tout him and act like others NEED to move up to fight him or cater to him definitely exacerbates my negative perception of him as well.Last edited by mathed; 01-28-2016, 08:16 PM.
