I think he's better than Arnoutis, but you make a good point about physicality as you move up in the ranks. He has a nice style, pretty solid, I like him a lot....he has more flash than Arnoutis and Paris probably but nothing is leaping off the screen in the way that some prospects can. He's not even really a prospect in the traditional sense he seems more like a late-bloomer in boxing, I don't really know how to classify him. He was not as fast as I had hoped seeing him live on Saturday.

Who would win Vasquez or that version of Zab that Paris fought?
My buddy fought on the undercard for the tim Coleman vs Vernon Paris fight. Since they fought in the same division I paid a lot of attention to it, there was also a lot of beef between those camps, so I was interested to see how Coleman/Paris would perform.

For a espn fight it was a big fight.

Tim Coleman I think was undefeated at the time, and was a tough dude himself, he also crushed a washed up Mike Arnoutis if I remember correctly.

But after seeing what Paris did to Coleman I was impressed. Than I saw how easily Zab smacked him around the ring, and exposed Paris as not physically strong enough for the top 10 guys.

I think Vasquez is the same kind of guy, and any legit top 10 guy probably walks through him. I can't even say that I think Vasquez is as good as Arnoutis or Paris.

he has very quick hands and quick movements. At times he just quick to be quick with no real purpose, like he will use movement and explode quickly but all he did is exchange the same position for the exact same position on the other side not opening anything up or angling himself away from being countered.

All in all definitely a great talent but fun to see how he devolps over the years and really eagered to hear who is his next opponent, hopefully somone that will challenge him.

I really hope Haymon treats him right, keeps him active, and gets him a title shot by the end of this year maybe early next year after a couple deserving wins.

Anyways, where do you see Sammy Vasquez in the future?
No idea where Sammy Vasquez Jr's ceiling is, but he's gonna be exciting to watch. Personally, I think the WBC path laid out works best for Vasquez, of all the fighters in the tournament (after beating Martinez, Vasquez already will have his next fight lined up by this weekend [Barrionuevo-Cosio winner on Saturday], before being placed as the second wildcard [basically fourth mandatory challenger]).

Once the wildcard spot is locked up by March/April, you can then move things up for Vasquez Jr; a summer showdown with a fighter like Josesito Lopez would make excellent sense.

              I like him.

Seems like Martinez was doing his level best to avoid combat and so it wasn't easy for Sammy to look spectacular.

So far, so good. Am looking forward to more of Who Can Mexican.

P.S. can they leave off the human interest b.s., please? It was getting pretty cringey by the 3rd or 4th go around

He's in good hands with Haymon. He'll allow him to develop rather than cave into fan and network pressure. He looks after his fighters. I think he has the potential to go far judging from the fight I watched on PBC on Fox, he said he was a fan of Naseem Hamed growing up and you can see there's some influence, very fluid and loose - exciting too. Look forward to seeing more of him.

If I could use one word for him, it would be 'awkward.' Nothing too special.
