This has happened before in boxing, it sadly does occur, at other times fighters sustain life changing injuries or brain damage.

Ordinarily in these situations the other fighter is severely impacted mentally by the tragedy too.

People who know nigel benn know he is deeply wounded by what happened to Gerald Mclellan and it haunts him to this day and will continue to do so. This is usually what happens.

On the other hand you have Sergei Kovalev, a guy who has been involved in a "death fight" who walks around grinning, thinking it highly amusing to talk about opponents dying, or going to the hospital, or being seriously injured by him, with no signs of remorse or any taste whatsoever about what happened.

This is deeply concerning to me that we have a high profile fighter in the sport who is that devoid of compassion. Kovalev, to me is the sort of person who could go Edwin Valero at any moment, and we find out he beat his girlfriend or kids to death or something like that.

At the very least the sanctioning bodies need to start putting some serious consequences on him for the trash statements he keeps coming out with. If he was a british fighter the BBOC would have given him a lengthy ban by now and he'd have been heavily fined as well.

But he just seems to get away with it, the guy is seriously lacking in class
    Go away troll.

He knows that dying in the ring is something than CAN happen. It can happen to him too. If he feels bad about what happened, then he is threatening his own life because being in the ring scared is worse for you. So he's just smart, as every other boxer. Was Mayweather a killer for what he did to Ortiz? he could have killed him. But no, that's normal, boxers know that they can die in the ring, and that they can kill in the ring.

Plus, reading this http://www.boxingscene.com/sergey-ko...e-roman--47093 should make you stop lying and STFU.

It's "Sergey". At least get his name right.

      And yes, he's a sociopath.

The brain is an anomaly. All of us would be diagnosed with something if we were clinically checked. Sergei is a fighter, the hurt business. In general, they have to hit a switch (in their head) in/out of the ring. He is what he is...

This is true, he did show remorse and wanted to apologize to the family in person and offered to donate his purse(s), of course the guy felt bad about it, but you just can't dwell on those things in this Sport...

"If I ever step in the ring again, I will dedicate my next fight to Roman. All my earnings will be sent to his family. Forgive me, Roman... Rest in Peace, Warrior." -Sergey Kovalev
This past Monday, two highly regarded Russian light heavyweights collided in an important cross-roader in Ekaterinburg under GT&KP Promotions. One of them, undefeated America-based puncher Sergey Kovalev (17-0-1, 15 KOs) escaped a brutal affair relatively unmarked – at least visibly – with a minor belt around his waist and his unbeaten record intact.

He seems like a gentleman to me and is usually happy. He gave his purse to the fighter he accidentally killed and met his family.

He's just not American/British so we aren't used to seeing someone with his appearance bullying back against trash talkers. He's supposed to, you know, sit there in nerd glasses and a scarf apologizing to everyone, then get a gender swap.

If we could trade Jean to bring back Roman we all would, but we can't and the past is the past.
